So in the driver's seat there's a latch where if you pull up will open the trunk, and push down will open the pump door.

For some reason, that button will NOT pull up! It's like stuck. Tried to pull as hard as I could, and afraid I would break it if I pull it any harder.

The trunk opens find it I use my key. Even the internal latch inside the trunk, where if u ever get stuck in a trunk opens up.

The driver seat latch stopped working after we jammed some luggage into the trunk. It might have knocked a wire loose or something but I don't see it?

Chances are the plastic piece responsible for backdoor + gaslid is broken. Only one of the two features functions rihgt? Rip up the trim, find out whats busted and do an epoxy job. My bet is that the plastic piece in there lost one of its securing tabs...

I know that our gas lid wouldn't open at one point and we had to open it from the trunk...I just used plenty of epoxy to fix the plastic piece in there...

Chances are that you have corrosion in there and he cable is rusted. It has either snapped off. just stuck or, limited movement. This is very common.
The unfortunate thing is that you (becasue you say you are clueless, no offence) will have to take it into a shop who will spend a couple hours fixing it. It will require the cable to be re-connected, replaced or unstuck. The seat may have to be removed (at which time you can get the seat mechanism fixed too).
Just to be certain, open the trunk and look at the latch mechanism while someone is pulling on the lever. If nothing moves, then you know there is a cable issue.
If you cannot do this yourself, I am afraid it will cost at least a couple hours labour plus parts.

In my car (a Mazda 626) there is a lever at the bottom of the trunk lid. If I filp it to the other side, my driver side trunk latch will not operate. This is to secure the trunk access if someone broke into the car.

bingo.

Another thing to check, not sure what year your Civic is, but on my 1990 Integra, you could lock the trunk release by using the key inside the cabin (down near the trunk release).

Doesn't it have to be a certain key (i.e. the master) as well? I don't think a "valet" key will unlock the trunk release

What year civic?

My 01 EL had a similar problem. I took off the trim to find the cable was covered in salt and corroded to the point that the cable snapped.

What year is it?

This is a common problem for the previous generation Civic. The plastic piece inside the release mechanism breaks.

I bought this from a guy in Chatham, easy and cheap to fix:

This is exactly what happened to my friends Civic. Overall he is really disappointed with cheap plastics Honda tends to use - so many little things break. He thinks that previous generation civics were better finished and with higher quality materials. Its a last Honda for him - that's for sure...

my uncle fixed it. It turned out part of the cabling just needed some oil or something.

I have a similar problem, I put the trunk in lock with the master key on the keyhole beside the driver, and now that I unlocked it the button won't go up to open the trunk from the behind. I can still open the trunk manually with the key though.
