Does a red light camera catch violations in all directions at an intersection? While driving home late last night, I followed a truck through the Finch & Bathurst (Going east on Finch) a little too closely to see the light turn red. And I'm pretty sure it would count as running the light. But as I was driving in to work, I noticed that the camera was on the north west corner, on Bathurst. So I'm just wondering if it would only catch people running the red in a certain direction or is the camera positioned to catch anyone the runs a red at that intersection?

It should catch all angles. When the red light camera is activated, it takes 3-4 pictures of you (1 before it turns red, and a couple of you in the intersection while the light is red).
You may get lucky and another car or a bus obstructs the camera's view/pic of you before the light turns red. Or you may also get lucky, because there aren't camera's in every red light camera casing. They actually rotate the camera's amongst the interesections, so one day it may be there, the next it may not. So if you never saw 2-3 consecutive flashes, then you should be ok.
I was lucky in my 2 instances. I went through one, but no flash. I guess camera wasn't in the casing at Vic Park and Lawrence I think it was when I went through that red light.
Then I went through a second one at Birchmount and Steeles, and flash flash flash. I saw the bright flash and was like, "CRAP!!!" But there was a bus on the right hand side, and I think it obstructed the view of the camera. 2 years later, I never received the ticket even though the camera did go off when I went through.

How can a camera catch an image of a car at 90 degree angle to it. I doubt it. City of Mississauga lists cameras that are currently installed and active and directions.

Not sure if they have one installed there yet, but I know there is one at Credit Valley/Erin Mills and Folkway/Erin Mills. During the night time you can see multiple flashes go off to get people's license plates when they run reds.
I've seen more around the city, but just can't bring up the exact locations. Maybe westbound at Creditview/Burnhamthorpe.

Sorry don't mean to Hijack this thread, but on the same topic, what about those drivers who are stuck in the intersection trying to turn left??? Would they get nailed??

Are those red light camera to nail you when you turns right and haven't wait 3 seconds? or just when you run the red light from straight or turn left.

I am freaked of red light camera's there is one near me on Dundas and every day when I go and from work. It turns red real quick so I always hope to god it turns red before I get there so I dont have to worry. I have seen people just SLAM the breaks on and almost start a pile up as people behind them must not know of the camera and ride their ass when it gets yellow.

If you already entered the intersection before the light turns red, then you are not in violation of running a red light.

Usually there are never just 1 camera at an intersection. If one doesn't see you the others will.

City of mississauga has most of its camera on either Derry Road stretch or Erin Mill Pkwy. There is another one at Dundas and Dixie. I do not think there is one at Creditview or Burhanthorpe. There is none at Mavis and Eglinton

City of Mississauga does not have any cameras installed at the present time.
The Region of Peel has a number of them installed along regional roads such as Erin Mills Pkwy, Derry Rd, & Dixie Rd within Mississauga.

If you are in the intersection before the light turns red, you have already crossed the sensors that activate the camera.

Left turn, straight through or right turn, if your speed trips the sensors on a red light.

Whenever I come up to one of these and I have to make a right turn on red...I always feel quite nervous since I don't know many seconds the sensor counts before you can make the turn safely and not activate the camera. A lot of times, if there is no cars behind me waiting to make the right turn, I would just wait it out for the green light. That few seconds is not worth the ticket.

Just do a full stop and add a second or two if you really feel nervous. As long as you do a full stop, it should be sufficient for them to not book you for it, unless you have some weird tires :P

The red light camera never snap if the light the light is green, is it?
What is I turn left in a no left turn road or make a u-turn when u-turn is not permitted?

have a talking GPS and install custom pi with red lights - you will be alerted 300m and 30m before you approach an intersection. my cheap magellan roadmate 1212 that i got almost a year and a half ago does a great job alerting me about red light cameras.

Its a RED LIGHT CAMERA. It will only snap you IF YOU GO THROUGH ON A RED LIGHT.
Why worry? If its yellow, don't speed up. Slow down. Thats that.
People slam on their brakes at yellows regardless if there is a camera there or not.

As far as I understand, only a camera taking moving pictures (e.g., like mpg, avi, etc.) can show whether a vehicle has made a full stop before entering an intersection and making a legal red light right turn. However, with a camera taking only still pictures (e.g., jpeg, etc.), unless you're going fast into the right turn (i.e., it's obvious based on the vehicle's speed that a full stop wasn't possible), I don't think they can prove whether a vehicle had done a full stop or just crawled before turning right by just looking at still pictures.
