Want to edit/update your thread title, or change the category of your thread, or add a thread icon (eg. http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/images/icons/icongta.gif)? Here's how you do it!

Click the http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/images/buttons/edit.gif button
Click the Go Advanced button (located between Save, and Delete)
(optional) Enter a Reason for Editing
Edit your thread title. Add/change/remove any desired Post Icon. Etc.
Click Save Changes button NOTE #1: If you only need to edit the text in your thread title, check out Post #5 (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9405510) below (Thanks Nukey!).

NOTE #2: You can not use special formatting, ie italics, or bold in your thread titles. Threads which are new, or have new (unread) posts will appear bold to forum members when they log in.

==============================

If I were ever to sell an item in BST, I would probably make use of the Delete feature to keep my thread from being cluttered with "bump" posts. ;) You may have other reasons to delete posts. Keep in mind if your post has been quoted by someone else, then deleting your post(s) won't change this. You can not delete threads (ie. Post #1).

Click the http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/images/buttons/edit.gif button

Click the Delete button (located between Go Advanced, and Cancel)

Choose Delete Message, (optional: Enter a Reason for Deletion)

Click Delete this message.

==============================

If there are particular members that bother you and you do not want to see their posts or receive Private Messages and Emails from them, then you can add these members to your 'Ignore List'.

To manage your ignore list, click here (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/profile.php?do=ignorelist).
To add a user to the list, enter their name into the empty text box and click 'Okay'.

Whenever you come across a post by an ignored member you will see the message:
This message is hidden because [username] is on your ignore list.

Note: You will still have the option to view hidden posts. However, in my experience, all it does is confirm why the person was ignored in the first place. :rolleyes: If you wish to do so, just click the View Post link on the top-right corner of the ignored member's post.

==============================

What does YMMV stand for?RFD loves its acronyms, and some acronyms even stand for different things depending on context. eg. OP stands for original post (post #1), or original poster (person who made the first post in a thread). For a list of commonly used acronyms, see the RFD forum rules (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/announcement.php?f=79&a=12) and the RFD Glossary thread. (YMMV stands for "your mileage may vary".)

==============================

Did you know you can move the sidebar menu? The sidebar menu includes quick links and information to many sections of RedFlagDeals.com. In the forums you can place this menu on either the left or right side. To change it:

Go to your Profile (click your username, or My Profile)
On the About Me tab, click on the http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/images/misc/userfield_edit.gif icon, next to "Sidebar menu position"
Choose Left or Right, then click the Save button.

==============================

Ever wonder how many posts it takes for a particular title? Here's the list:
1 - 99 Newbie
100 - 199 Jr. Member
200 - 499 Member
500 - 999 Sr. Member
1,000 - 4,999 Deal Addict
5,000 - 9,999 Deal Fanatic
10,000+ Deal Guru

==============================

How do I change my username?

The short answer is you can't. For a longer answer, read: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/merged-how-change-user-name-508036

** If you decide to "change" your username by creating a new account, please consult with the moderators first, because having 2+ accounts is not allowed! **

Only one forum account is allowed per individual person. People found to have multiple accounts who are using them in a benign manner will be given the choice of which account they would like to keep. If a user has multiple accounts in order to commit fraud or to circumvent a ban or any other RedFlagDeals.com rule, they will have all of their accounts banned and will not be allowed back into the RedFlagDeals.com forums ever.

Here's an easier way:

1. Go to the forum where you made your post (e.g. Hot Deals)

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7717/screenshot20090911at956.png

2. Double click anywhere in the box (table row) where your post title is

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5779/screenshot20090911at957.png

3. Type in the new title and hit enter or click off of the title.

All done! :)

How do you link to a specific thread so that you go to the same one even if the title changes?

EDIT: happened to look at jz1n's sig and found out

Don't know if it's been said elsewhere, but for those who are interested:

example: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/name-of-thread-123456
permanent link = http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/n-123456

P.S. thanks Nukey for the shortcut!

How do you link to a specific thread so that you go to the same one even if the title changes?

You can still use the old link and the forum software will automatically redirect you to the correct thread, even if the title has changed.

AFAIK manually applying the the text formatting (i.e. bold, underline, italics, size, colour, etc.) is not possible for thread titles. However, the forum software automatically applies boldface to the thread titles if you are logged in and there are new or updated threads since your last visit.

^^ You are correct, BB Code can't be applied to thread titles, so you can't use it to format thread titles. If you try to use it will appear as part of the thread title.

How do you link to a specific thread so that you go to the same one even if the title changes?

Don't know if it's been said elsewhere, but for those who are interested:

You can also use the code [thread]. The [thread] tag allows you to link to threads by specifying the thread id.

Example 1:
BB Code -- 785134
Output -- 785134

Example 2:
BB Code -- RFD "How to" FAQ
Output -- RFD "How to" FAQ
