Two people were stabbed to death at a McDonald's restaurant in Richmond late Friday night, authorities said.

At about 11:00 p.m., Richmond RCMP responded to a call at the McDonald's on Granville and No. 3 Road. They found two people -- one man and one woman -- suffering from stab-related injuries. They died at the scene.

Workers and customers gave police a description of a suspect. A man was arrested less than two blocks away and is currently being detained.

Police have not released the identities of the two victims.

"I came outside to see what's going on. Police were here and they blocked off all the entrances to the McDonald's. They started cordonning off all the streets -- pretty awful," said Joel Neighbour, who lives nearby.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating.

Crime scene technicians gathered evidence in and around the restaurant well into the night. It is expected that they will be on scene through Saturday, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call IHIT TIP Line at 1-877-551-IHIT or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS.

This story has got me thinking, have you ever witnessed any escalated scenes of violence in a fast food restaurant?

Whether it was rowdy customers, fights, verbal abuse, etc....

Just how bad it is sometimes at fast food restaurants?

the aggresiveness of the panhandlers and the people who want to buy food at the drive-thru but have no cars at this Mcdonalds is WORSE than the ones at the Mcdonalds on terminal in Vancouver.

I've gone through 2 seperate inccidents where drunks, basically begging to buy food for them, because they didn't have car.

A third inccident where the staff basically called the cops on people.

This was before most of the Mcdonalds became 24/7 Mcdonalds in GVRD of course.

I bet the victims weren't lovin' it.

This is the only real violence I've seen at a fast food restaurant:

I've seen people get hot tempered enough to get me moving away to a safe distance. People who go to fast food places are usually young, lower social and economical class and tend to be violent in nature.

You don't hear about people getting into shouting matches at the social club or golf club because there aren't any grey poupon. Generalization occurs for a reason and it's not based on imagination but observations. I prefer to get my food and leave so I don't eat in that often unless I have no choice.

that was favourite mcd's as a kid -- they had that enormous multi-level indoor playset, ballpit, free merry-go-rounds, and the nintendo kiosks where i would play the exact same games as i had at home...but it was cooler because i was playing them in a mcdonalds!!!

that was when i also found out the cool kids all had their birthday parties at awesome places like mcd's or chuck e cheese.

Yeah this is why I don't go to fast food joints in the middle of the night. Too many sketchy people.

I wonder what the motive for this incident was? Still kinda messed up how it all went down.

It was a bad weekend indeed.

Is this outside of the norm though? Saw on TV there was what? 4 stabbings, 7 injured, or something like that?

Apparently it was a long triangle gone wrong:

My bf and I were in NY and almost saw something unfold at a White Castle. We got the hell out when we heard what was gonna go down. Someone wanted to beat someone else up over something.

At least it was random, but the motive behind it is still terrible.

It's a shame it came down to that.
