If you really want to knock his socks off, I know they make radio controlled planes that takes off and lands just like their real counterpart. A bit more expensive but if you pool money together, it's worth it!

Oooo thanks for the suggestion.
Price is not an issue for me. But I'm not sure if they would carry them locally. I'll check the list of stores I found when I have time.

Wow, how much would that cost? 10 thousands dollars?
How can it take off in such a short distance in the runway?

It's lightweight and it uses real jet engines. Miniature jet engines, but they can still easily do 300km/h....That's gotta be about $10k I'd say. Something 'entry level' is about $1-2k...like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_agVC08oy98

Mini air-induction turbine engines will set you back $3000-$4000 each. Body is another $1500, electronics in the plane is another $2000-$3000. Basically you can buy a decent economy car for a plane like that.

Its closer to $20-35k, not including time. I saw it profiled on TV.

I'd buy it if I can ship stuff across the borders with it without paying stupid USP brokerage fees, levies, or taxes!
Then again, it'd probably shot down the moment it entered US airspace.

I'm looking at remote control airplanes on ebay right now and I'm wondering, what's the difference between a 2 channel, 4 channel, and 6 channel RC?

I guess with 2 channel, you can fly the plane up and down,
4 channel to fire the cannon,
and 6 channel to drop a b$mb :D :D

You might want to check these guys out: www.racingdevil.com
They're located in Aberdeen centre and have a pretty big selection of planes, helicopters, boats, cars, and associated spare parts. Might be worth checking out.
Cessna Centurion:

2 channel gives you throttle and turning control only: one channel for both engines, and another channel to control the difference in speed between engines to change direction
4 channel gives you engine control, rudder control, elevator control, and aileron control, and is probably sufficient for most
Not sure what 6 channels gives you, but maybe propeller pitch and gyro controls
Correct me if I'm wrong

2 channel is basically just up, down, left, right (aileron and elevator). 4 channel is aileron, elevator, rudder and throttle control. 6 channel only for airplanes that have things like retractable gear and flaps extra.

Here is a list of hobby shops in Vancouver. I'm sure there is more if you look in the yellow pages.

Start looking for a club to fly in your area. I used to build and fly my own back in the days.
Don't know about nowadays, but my club did not allow you to learn on anything besides a trainer plane.
Which makes sense anyway. You are likely to crash it and 'band-aid' it many times before you get your wings.
If you want to play around first on the computer, go get this:
http://www.realflight.com/index.html and d/l the demo but it's pretty useless to learn without a using a real transmitter.
I think I have RF generation 2, it's now G4.5. I gotta d/l the demo and try it out.
BTW, this simulator is very good.
