Hello Everyone,

Our new house should be finished end of Oct. /beginning of Nov. and we need to buy all new appliances and furniture. Where would you say the best place (most reasonable prices) to buy furniture and appliances would be? Should we buy now or wait until closer to our moving date. Thanks in advance! (gta area)

As much as I like Costco their appliances selection kinda sucks.

I don't know which place is the best but I do recommend shopping around. Sears and Futureshop gets my vote. Lowe's seems good too (not sure if they have stores in GVR though). I heard bad things from Leon's and the Brick though.

Do check the local shops also because they might be more willing to negotiate (but make sure they are authorized).

Do you have any ideas what to get?

My gf and I have been visiting Ikea to get inspiration for our future home.

OP: You should shop around, to mix and match furniture from various places.

PS. Stay away from the Brick

There are many threads on this topic in the Home & Garden forum Did you do a search?

For appliances, most people get the best prices at either Tasco, Caplan's, Quans, or Sears who PMs.

We just successfully lowballed Sears yesterday and got the deal we wanted. We used both Tasco and Quans for product research and then went to Sears to PM.

As for furniture, there are threads (sorry I haven't book marked them) where people have complied lists of furniture stores. Do a search and good luck!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have shopped around and I did do a search in this forum as well. I was just wondering if at this time there were any great deals out there with a particular store. I guess I have to narrow down what I want exactly (Model & Brand specific) and shop around. I was just hoping to get a good deal on stainless steel appliances. I don't really need all the bells and whistles but I do want a good quality fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer at reasonable prices.

+1 for futureshop. They gave me 10% off without even asking. My washer and dryer set went on sale couple days after and I got a price adjustment. Plus delivery is $50 flat. Most places charge by piece.

Actually most places told me they would throw in delivery for free. And if not, it was $60 for everything, not per piece.

I know people will jump all over me for saying this but i would recommend Sears Outlet/Clearance stores. We bought all our appliances there and haven't had any problems with them. They're scratch and dents or referbs so you really just got to shop around, they usually have quite a selection (especially rexdale location) If you're iffy on the product you can purchase the extended warranty which Sears will service. Each location has their own sale but some times they'll have an additional 30-40% off their reduced price. Each store has different items and different sales so it's hit and miss.....I got such deals as Kenmore Elite Stainless steel french doors fridge for just over $1,200 or a Kenmore Elite Beveradge Centre (fancy wine/beer) fridge for $120. At the least it's worth a look.

I usually get places to waive delivery for appliances (or roll it into the price). And I've never been charged per piece...

For appliances, I went to Tasco, Appliance Canada, and Morleys - ended up buying at Morleys.

As for furniture, I recently had a great experience with Casalife. Casalife carries a lot of brands like BDI, Calligari, etc. Thompson Fine Furniture in Aurora is also very good.

However, with furniture, if you see a piece you like, try to get the manufacturer's name - then find all the dealers in the area and get a competitive quote :)
