Hey all
We found a small bird, looks like 2-3 weeks old. It cant fly yet but i see same kind of birds on the trees on my backyard.

Can someone identify the bird? I want to feed it until it can fly as I cant think of any other options. if i leave it outside it can serve as a good meal to local cats, raccoon or coyote

Leave it alone the adult birds will look after it.

It's a Cedar Waxwing, they are commonly sighted at this time of year because they eat all the berries on the trees, especially those orange berries on the Mountain Ash tree's

As stated; leave the bird on the ground alone.

i had a similar situation a few weeks back, i put it in a box with some water and shade on top of the car so nothing could get to it but the adult birds never came around. i took it to the humane society the next day. i wouldnt just leave it on the ground, something will eat it.

I mostly agree with the "leave it alone" advice - unless you are absolutely certain that it has been abandoned by its parents. If so, contact the Toronto Humane Society for advice.

In the meantime, read this: Wild Bird Care Centre - Rescuer Info (http://www.wildbirdcarecentre.org/english/rescuer.html#Baby birds on the ground - are they in need of rescuing)

I don't think you can go wrong giving it small berries, water, and protection - again, if you are convinced that it has been abandoned.
