A friend of mine is purchasing a home in Northern Ontario. The home is set to close in mid-november. She wants to paint the garage door and some wooden window frames before moving in but realizes that it might be too cold in mid-november.
Is it possible for her to negotiate with the seller to do the work on the house before the closing date? Has anyone heard of ppl doing this?

Might have been easiest if had been included in the offer. The seller may or may not allow it but it doesn't hurt to ask. Hard to say since the property and any problems will be the seller's responsibility until the closing date.

There's enough to worry about with moving -- maybe she could just make it a Spring project?

Never hurts to ask, maybe the seller will be moving out or away before the deal closes, so it wont be too inconvenient.

Doesn't hurt to ask, but if I were the seller, I'd insist to either move up the closing or say no. And if I were the one who wanted a Nov closing, I'd just say no.
If I want to enjoy the property for the last time, I don't want someone else's half-done paint job - or even someone else's fully done paint job reminding me it's no longer "mine". If I'm no longer going there, I don't want to have the responsibility of anything going wrong. And I have nothing to gain.
