View Full Version : Edit ANY Website with one simple line (HUGE abuse potential)

So...I found a really cool thing earlier today. With one simple line inserted into your web browser address bar, you can edit ANY website and print it off at a click of a button. I'm not going to post what that code is because of the HUGE potential for abuse, but I'm going to show you because I think it's cool! It keeps the exact formatting and font, so it looks EXACTLY like the regular page. All this can be done with one simple line typed into the address bar...
For example...
http://img198.imagevenue.com/loc786/th_74219_sky_122_786lo.JPG (http://img198.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=74219_sky_122_786lo.JPG)
And here's where the potential for abuse comes in. You can edit ANY website with ANY price and print it off to price match. PLEASE NOTE, I do not condone this or have ever done it, but I just think it's SO easy to do this if you know how. I shrunk the picture so it's easier to see, but if you print it directly from your web browser, it prints it as if it's printed directly from the website.

...you must be bored, eh?
I suspect (re:know) you've just used a webpage maker (a la Microsoft Frontpage or Word) because 1. all the hyperlinks are underlined and no browser, AFAIK, shows these things when saved and uploaded to the 'net, and 2. last names that aren't common or in your editing program's dictionary/word list are showing up as errors (with the requisite dotted red underline).
Like, now, as I write this post, my browser is showing me that "Frontpage" might be a misspelled word, and indicates so with a red dotted underline. But when this message is published, that line won't show up.
If you wanted to fool someone, you should have saved your edited page, opened it up in an actual browser, and screen shot/posted that image to this thread.
...can't find an appropriate pwned/epic fail image, so I'll just write this below:
Fail.

And you wonder why they actually go and CHECK the website AND call the store when you PM something? Duh!
I might not be able to do it with one line, but I have a life. Plus, if I needed to do something like that, I could just get the source code and edit the HTML. Not that hard.

a) OP - Anyone who knows anything about the web works and/or how web page design works knows this, let alone any computer programmer. Web pages are not static, they are just source code, and you can edit that code on your PC to make them lo0ok any way you want.
b) You don't even know how to do it properly as is evidenced by your horrible screenshots where the page is all arsed up
Try pasting this into your URL bar:
javascript:void(document.getElementById("current").innerHTML="<h1>FAIL</h1>");
c) Firebug makes this simple.
d) This does not have abuse potential unless the person working at the store is totally clueless and does not verify the price.

Hey, I'm going to start printing $100 bills off my colour printer. I'm sure nobody has ever thought of that before!

From a BST: Video Games, Music & Movies thread:
This site is really for bargain hunting, not for ripping people off at ridiculous prices. You're better off Ebaying this crap rather than trying to rip off the people from this community. Consider this a free bump for you but I had to comment. I REALLY hate people that do this bull crap.
And yet here you are, doing much the same - trying to fool people.

Why not just photochop some text?
http://davidjwong.shawwebspace.ca/asset/view/22527/anders300.jpg
OT: Photochop pictured is Rob Anders - MP for Calgary West (A politician) As much as we all love politicians and our 300 MP's - Rob Anders has the distinction (without much argument) of being the worst MP in Canada.
He actually managed to screw up a local native land deal because he is a blatant racist - that will cost Calgary Billions of dollars in growth and expansion, construction workers just love Rob, lol.

Way to go Rob Anders!

Hey at least he didn't do this:
If he did a screen shot of his epic fail with the browser in view and left that in the address bar, it would be make a failed fail even funnier.
