View Full Version : What happened to the RFD BBQ this year?
najibs
Aug 24th, 2009, 08:46 PM
I just realized that there was no mention of an RFD BBQ this year. Did Derek and Ryan believe that the recession will affect our ability to shell out $10 bucks for a burger, drink and some mingling with our good 'ol RFD commrades this year?
Or was it the person in last years thread that complained about the freebies he got in the freebie bag that werent to his satisfaction, that turned them off from having another BBQ?
Oh well, too late now...

Basically there's no BBQ this year, at all. Smaller events yes but even then, I haven't seen any being advertised.

I've organized a few of the previous RFD meets actually. Unfortunately, my time organizing them is up. Someone else needs to take the helm. So far everyone who's posted in this thread, I've met all of them in person, oddly enough
The most succesful meet (which was not organized by me) was the Sushi on 7 meet back in late 2006. I remember about 30 RFDers showed up. Maybe we should do a Korean BBQ meet, or a better yet...Pho meet....Pho Fuzion in Mississauga at Bristol and Mavis is da bomb! If you guys are serious about it, I could take over najibs' hosting duties and organize it since I've met a few RFD'ers.

Would a weeknight or weekend be better for you people?
I'm thinking Friday? How about next Friday, September 4th, 2009 sometime after 6pm at... Pho Fuzion in Mississauga (SE corner of Bristol Road and Mavis Road) since najibs suggested it. Only thing is, pho is fast food, you can eat and be out within 30 minutes. There are a lot of bar/grill restaurants in the Heartland shopping area, 5 minutes north of Pho Fuzion that is good for the after gathering I suppose.
If not next Friday, how about next Thursday, September 3rd, 2009.
Based on the majority, either of those dates will be used.
Next weekend is Labor Day long weekend anyway. Labor Day is Monday, September 7, 2009.

really? haha I don't think I go to that area very often... but anyways, you're definitely right :P There aren't very many Asians living in my area haha.
As for the dinner, it depends on whether or not I'm going camping with my friends next weekend. If not, both days should be good for me. Location doesn't really matter, but it'd have to be after 6, like you've mentioned... unless some nice RFDer who works downtown is planning to drive to Mississauga after work and can save me a trip on the GO ;) (partially kidding) Either way I still have to go home to grab my car, lol. Oh, and I vote for something other than pho because like you said, pho is usually a quick meal.

I tried their Pineapple Fried Rice and thought it was pretty good and my friend got the Geuy Teuw Kua (SP? of the dish) i believe that's what it was on the menu if i remember correctly and he say it was pretty good for the first time eating at a thai restaurant.
