Beleive it or not, I still have my old "dust buster" from the 80's, however the battery is getting weaker. What is available in the market that is very similar to the old hand held dustbuster??? What do you guys recommend???

I have a Hoover wet/dry dustbuster I bought last year for when the puppy had accidents.. Got it at Sears for $30 iirc. They also sell it at Home Hardware but it cost more.

I'm surprised it lasted this long before your battery died.
I'm done with battery powered handhelds... cord all the way.
Even the Dyson handheld only works for a few minutes but requires hours to charge.

My Dustbuster works for 15 minutes+ or so on battery - enough to clean a small area. They're not intended to clean large areas...

Get a 14.4V or higher Dustbuster. They're available at Walmart, Rona, Home Depot, etc. Also drop by a Black and Decker Clearence outlet if you have time - you can get a decent dust buster for ~30 -40% off.

We got a Black and Decker one at Crappy Tire about a year ago for about $30 and love it. We never use for more than a few minutes at a time.

I bought a Eureka corded hand vac (http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B00106CBL4/sr=1-1/qid=1251222888/ref=sr_1_1/185-2258511-9670364?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=396518011). I bought it to vacuum the stairs after my Fantom Lightening finally bit the dust. It is great for stairs especially if you have pets.

It also gets very good reviews on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-71B-Hand-Held-Vacuum/dp/B0006HUYGM).

I like this idea and the good reviews that it received. Other than Sears, who else carries this product????

I second this product. My home is dominated by stairs (41 steps) and it has been the best thing I have ever purchased to clean them, but I also use it for general pick up, the couch, car, and mattress. It is a little awkward if you want to use it to get dust bunnies (hippos in my case) and spider webs from the ceiling, because the exhaust blows things everywhere (if you are not paying attention) and being vertically challenged, I'm still looking for an old pipe extension to be able to reach further. I checked everywhere in Canada to purchase it, unfortunately I could only find it at Sears and it was not carried in store.

I was only able to find it at Sears online as well. I looked in the stores here and even looked in the US (Walmart, Target, Kmart etc) and couldn't find it there. Save yourself the hassle and just order from Sears.
I came across this model while searching online for a vacuum for the stairs. I found numerous people recommending it and then went to Amazon and the reviews there sold me on it. I've had it for a couple of years and my stairs have never looked better. I do use it for other things but I bought it for the stairs as they are such a pain to vacuum and my old Dustbuster didn't pick up much. I live in a townhouse with lots of stairs and my cats like to sleep on those carpeted stairs so they are covered with hair.
