Sure.

I make approx $80 000/year base, $100 000 with overtime (OT is double time where I work). My wage is $32/hr, with a extra $2.50/hr on night shift.
Bonuses fluctuate heavily with the nat gas markets, but as recently as 3 years ago, it was common to recieve an additional $10-15 K through cash bonuse and stock options and stock bonuses. It it considerably lower now, with many bonuses being frozen.
I am a 4th class power engineer working at a gas plant for a large Canadian oil and gas company.
I am just an operator; not in a management position.
You also mentioned age; I am 30.

According to Stat Can, a Canadian male earned $44,400, while a female earned $29,200, per year, on average, in 2007. Link (http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/labor01a-eng.htm)

By linear projection for 2009, if you make ~$46,000 (male) per year ~$31,000 (female),then you're at the average :-)

Also, OP did not include location which is a huge factor in many industries.

If I moved from here to Ontario, I would instantly be making about 50% more / yr, maybe higher.

Of course, my living expenses would go up nearly as much. And the lifestyle would suck much more.

People, this is a money pinching site, redflagdeals, for pete's sake. You will not find a person making more than $65k here.

I'm in my 20's and I hope that I was making the same money as the 30 yo guy who claimed to be making $80k per year or more. Like someone has posted, guys have egos and asking for a male's salary is like asking for how big their wieners are.

I'm just starting my career so I have to be honest, I make only $56k per year and I live in Miss. I wish it was more but I'll get there...Trust me, my number is not inflated.

BS. I'm sure there are PLENTY of people making more than 65k here. I'm sure a LARGE majority of people make more than $65k here.

Just because people make more money, doesn't mean they'll go and spend it recklessly. I love the thrill when saving a couple hundred dollars on whatever item (spent $55 on a Thomas the Tank Engine track set that usually retails for $150 from kids.woot.com the other day) and I make more than the bolded salary in USD.

I make more than that with my employer and with my business I am flirting with

Income isn't everything though, you must educate yourself to get ahead financially and I would think that is why most of us are here.

Field: Marketing
Post: Segment Manager
Salary: 86k base, 10k car allowance

Others: Matching to 5% of salary for RRSP/Savings, 2% Pension
Vacation: 5 weeks plus 4 float days

And I am quite happy where I am. Right now, with young kids, I have no desire to battle it out for the next position up the ladder. I have next to no stress, work from a home office and get to spend a whack of time with the family.

I realize that you will either believe me or not, but what I stated was the truth. As well, please realize just how relative annual salary is. In Northern Alberta, where I live, our cost of living is high. Really high. We are often the most expensive (or near to) place in the country for gasoline. Bread costs $3/loaf. A large fruit tray is over $20.

I'm not making up numbers to impress strangers on the internet. I was in my response, just like I will honestly tell you about some of the bad financial decisions I have made if asked. Great forums like this are all about having others to share, compare and learn with.

It's true. Anyone who has an interest in personal finance and spends their time trawling this message board looking for tips and info on how to make their money make more money is definitely in the minority and is most likely smarter than your average Joe and therefore more affluent.

I find a vast majority of regular posters are quite smart, under 40 and ambitious, so even if they aren't six figure blingin yet, I would bet money you'd find a much larger percentage of monetarily successful people on this board compared to the general population.

Good post..

What makes the world interesting is that you will sometimes run into people who are in different fields and make just as much money or more than you do.. and you scratch your head wondering why?!
fact is each career has it's perks.. and natually some pay better than others..

I have plenty of family members that make killings in thier jobs but have no pensions, then I have some that make lower salaries but are set for retirement..

I guess my point to the above is "the older I get the more I learn", salary is not everything! Enjoy what you make and live life "but!" keep some money aside always for a rainy day.

Lol ... that's the stupidest thing someone has said in this thread so far. As Brunes already pointed out there are BMWs-a-plenty here in NB. If you picked something really expensive like a Lambo then maybe you'd be on to something ... but how many Lambos are there in Toronto even? Not that many I wouldn't think. I actually saw a Lotus here in Moncton just last month actually!

Have you ever even been out east and experienced life out here? It's pretty awesome to be able to get more house than you'd ever need for under $200,000 around here and a pretty awesome mansion for $1M.

I as well agree there are many people in here, a large proportion in fact make allot more than you think.

I find there are those that make allot, those that save allot, those that spend allot and they are not always the same people. For years I wondered how others that made less than me lived so lavishly, until I paid off all my debts, and compared retirement positions only to find most haven't any at all.

I do very well, try to save where I can (which is why I am here), and try to learn from others as much as possible in order to save more from not making mistakes. Ironically you won't meet many of the lazy overspenders in here so you automatically have a skewed population.

Sales can be quite lucrative btw, with salaries exceeding $100k and bonuses even at large corporations over $200k. Some make even more especially in the SW industries.

And that is retail, so the actual worth is probably more like 15 cents :P

Market value for banana at the farmer level would probably be less than 5 cents /ea, if you factor in middleman, transportation and distribution centre costs.

I would think that when you are making $300k, your time would be a little more valuable than researching penny pinching methods on small items.

I doubt you can save $150/hr browsing RFD, and definitely not on penny pinching postings.

This personal finance forum is useful, Learning from other people's mistakes can be valuable, not to mention some interesting points of view here that can broaden your thinking.

damn makes me depressed. I only make 37k/year... and only 2 weeks of vacation:(
I have other perks tho that, to me, are worth a fair bit of money.
Never have to work weekend, or overtime.
As many breaks as we want per day (within reason of course, but often take 1.5 hours worth of breaks every day.. not including lunch)
Only 7 hour work days
Boss takes us out for lunch often that takes up whole afternoon (about once every 2 months)
Office drinking parties every other friday afternoon or so during the summer.
never any stress except maybe very odd time.
Variable starting time. Can come in anytime between 7 to 9:30

So yeah, I mean I could probably get a job somewhere else and get another 10-15k/year more but wouldn't have a lot of these perks (although would have other perks) The only 35 hour work weeks, and no overtime is awesome. I worked 44 hour weeks and didn't like it. 40 is ok.

Well, it should be noted they were organic bananas. I usually RFD it and get the cheaper non-organic ones, but all the cheaper ones were overripe in this case. :)

In your shoes I'd probably rather work 44 hrs/week, which is 25% more hours, to get the $15000 more pay, which is 40% more pay.

We're all different though I guess.

My goal is to eventually have a salary large enough that even maxing my RRSP contributions won't lower my marginal tax rate, but I'm not there yet.

That's a pretty odd goal - if you made 20,000 a year maxing your RRSP wouldn't reduce your marginal tax rate, same at about 60,000 to 70,000 (in BC, the thresholds are likely different elsewhere), and again in the higher brackets.

So your goal is quite easy, just make 20,000 (or even 1,000) and you've made it.

honestly now, I'd be a pimp too if it were that easy... you have to deal with ho's on drugs or getting STDs, fighting for turf with other pimps, johns that don't pay... high risk of getting shot or injured.

I got incorporated and getting paid about 40k/yr. Going to talk to the accountant to see if I should increase my pay in order to pay the home mortgage faster and put more $ into RRSP.

I work in IT at a lawfirm, and make 47,000 plus around 5000 in OT from being on call.

3 weeks holidays, matching pension plan, and 35 hour work weeks.

I thought I was paid decently, but it seems most people make more then me!

I think with 60 K salary you can live a fairly comfortable life if your single. Seems to be about the benchmark these days.

Problem is that with recession, employers are being stingy - even when they know folks deserve higher salaries.

There are people who make more money than anyone of us ... they are called Drug Dealers. I am certain that they are not going to say how much they earn nor the fact they care about RFD. LOL .... keep on the posts coming!!
