I really hate airmiles but since we're close to Metro, I end up collecting them. The rewards really disappoint.
For example, I ordered the 2 movie tickets with popcorn deal but it's only good for Sunday to Thursday and not for current movies (no passes). Then I ordered Blue Jay tickets and they're only good for regular games, so we need to go some evening instead of an afternoon game and of course, no good teams. The limits are just not worth the hassle of these rewards.
I'm going to just redeem for Metro GCs now and use them for food. Too bad, I had hoped to buy fun rewards instead.>:(

buying food and eating them are not fun?

Well no one is forcing you to collect them.....
The terms and conditions are clearly stated on the site before you redeem. What theatre are you going to, as far as i'm aware Cineplex Night Out from Airmiles is the *same* as if you purchased it on your own (i.e. from Costco).

What bothers me about Air Miles is that gift certificates with the SAME CASH VALUE still cost different amounts of Miles!!
For example, $25 at Kernels is 185 miles, but $25 at Starbucks is 200 miles!

Yeah but then again what program doesn't do that.
AMEX in the US advertises 5000 Membership Rewards as "1% in gift cards". Well if you look, a Home Depot $50 card is 5000 MR (= 1%). But an AMEX $50 Gift Card is 10,000MR (= 0.5%).
BOA/MBNA Worldpoints is funny as well. A $25 Visa/MC Gift card is 3500Points, an iTunes $25 gift card is 4000 Points. What's with that?

The Empiire ones have no such restrictions. Valid 7 days / week for any movie.
You can get one of the above BOGO movie tickets for only 25 AM. Worh $10, it is one of the best redemptions you can make.
If you assume you get 1 AM / $20, it is 2% back - very decent.

I just double checked, Cineplex Night Out also has no restrictions.
The NO Passes is referring to free passes companies sometimes give out. It will say Cineplex Movie Pass on the front, and only includes the admission.
Yearly Passes are not available for purchase. You can, however, purchase our Cineplex Night Out coupons, or Gift Cards which allow for free admittance to any show with no restrictions.

What I have gotten from Airmiles.
Peg Perago Car seat and matching stroller
Cuisinart Coffee maker
Raleigh bike
Pioneer Receiver 350 i think
Gift cards for Linen & things which I used to get the Dyson slim.
What I am saying is that I like airmiles myself, I think now I am going to hold off for a family vacation.

With that many airmiles I can only assume you used an airmiles credit card. If that's the case, you usually end up getting better returns on cash back.
I personally have an airmiles card, but don't go out of my way to use it and always go for the cash back first.

Thing I hated about Airmiles the last time I used them was that I was told I would have to pay the taxes for the ticket, which made sense, but I found out that the taxes they charged me were 50% more than the taxes I would have paid if I bought the ticket normally.
West jet told me that there would be about $96 of taxes, but Airmiles charged me about $150. Airmiles listed a "fuel surcharge" on my bill, but West Jet doesn't charge a fuel surcharge.
Long story short, 1300 air miles only ended up saving me a bit more than 50% off what I would have spent if I had just bought the whole ticket. Not a great deal by any means.

Shell car wash are good value. Ultimate plus car wash cost like $12.00 and you get 2 for 75 airmiles.
you can earn 30 airmiles a month just by using the yahoo airmiles toolbar.
airmiles is greater than aeroplan hands down.

You pay the same taxes if redeeming an Aeroplan flight.

The Costco Tix have no restrictions whatsoever and you get Scene points when you redeem them.

So you're getting 30 airmiles a month for using their toolbar. That comes out to 360 a year. At 140 miles = $20 groceries, that's about $50 free groceries. Sweet deal.

well i redeemed 2 of them (4 gc in total)...it say $6 on the thing so does that mean i have to pay the rest if the wash is over $6? IF it is then dont see how that is a good deal...
The yahoo toolbar sounds cool, do 12 searches a day for 30 days and there's 30 free miles!

No, you can get the most expensive wash for free. I think the voucher is almost like a cheque, and what it means is the station gets $6 when they "cash" it and has to eat the rest of the difference themselves.

Yeah, my voucher said something about being good for any wash up to a "Deluxe" or whatever, so I walked into the station and I said "Oh, so I guess I can't get an Ultra Deluxe then?" and the lady said I could choose ANY wash including the "Ultra Deluxe" or whatever the most expensive one was. I think it rang up as $12.99 or whatever - $6.99 discount, and the voucher paid the remaining $6.

The bad thing is the toolbar is a real POS.
The search results are horrible and it "takes over" your browsing. Any time you go to a site that is an airmiles sponsor, it tries to redirect your purchase through the airmileshsops.ca site. This is good if you want to do this, but VERY BAD if you use cash-back sites like GCR, because that voids the cashback.
I installed it for about 30 mins and could not put up with it anymore. I use the web way too much for it to be worth 360 AM / year to ruin my experience.

Really? My experiences are the opposite. I found Westjet's taxes & fees are higher than Air Canada.

I questioned this about 6 months ago.
It took me a while but the answer I finally received was that the difference is due to a fuel surcharge that was introduced by AC and WJ in 2005 that has since been built into the fares charged by the airlines. AirMiles claims they negotiated their agreements with the airlines before this surcharge was introduced so they still charge it.
I told AirMiles that they should not charge the surcharge and increase the amount of miles required for flights. The surcharge makes it very difficult to determine if cashing AirMiles for flights is worthwhile.

Just to let everyone know I just got a message while trying to do searches with the toolbar and it said that some of my searches would not be counted as the words were non-nonsensical, or past search patterns show that I'm not "using" the toolbar for real/valid searches. The counter was still counting them but apparently after the 15th of Sept, they're changing that. They also said that they reserve the right to revoke miles......*sigh* what a waste of my time.
It said that if people were using the toolbar for genuine searches it should be fine.

The problem is that many of the toolbars consider pretty much all search terms to be invalid.
