"flat" LCD image

So my Viewsonic LCD TV's image has lost its depth. The best way I can describe it is that the image has gone flat. I have tried different inputs (HDMI and component) with same result. The effect comes and goes, but seems to have stayed this time. Is it fubarred or can this actually be fixed? Can someone tell me the technical term for what is wrong so I can look into it -- so far my googling hasn't turned up anything helpful.

Without seeing it, sound like a bad panel control board or a bad LVDS cable. Part availability is the main problem. If part are available then the cable is not too expensive, controller board should be reasonable but if the controller board only comes with the panel then not worth repairing.
There really is no correct term for the problem.
