I just applied for the HBC credit card at Zellers. Will it harm my credit rating? My credit score is excellent right now. Any tips of how to maintain it and things to avoid?

anytime you do a hard check., it lowers it by x points.

how to harm it further?
1-don't make your payments on time..heck don't make them at all.
2-cancel the CC within 3months...or is it 6?
3-maximize the limit immediately, and never pay it off.

Don't do those items, and you'll be fine.

The HBC CC is a very power tool., since my Zellers Doesn't take AMEX., my 2% was rendered useless thereat., so I resorted to getting the HBC. Coupled with the member week-end promos and such at 10% discount, it can make it's money back for you five times over a 2% amex ever could.
