No this is not a topic based on me finding new ISP as I am with Teksavvy and I love them.

This is about trying to get better knowledge for a friend and his current scenario with their new ALL in one modem/router that was given to them for setup.

He received a gateway 2701HG-G from them. He is looking for an alternative that can be used instead of that. Is there one available? Would he just be better off with 2 seperate devices one modem and one router?

Friends don't let friends use Bell.

Yes a separate device is better for now and for when you have him switched to any other ISP.

He can buy an older Bell DSL modem off Craiglist or get one of those TP-link ADSL modems or Asus has some I believe and then use whatever router he wants.

Me I'm using my 2701G with Singtel firmware for Acanec :-)
