Nope, this drive spins @ 7,200 RPM. Western Digital Hard Drives are the best in the business.

Nope, this drive spins @ 72,000 RPM. Western Digital Hard Drives are the best in the business.
Wow, that's ten times faster than non-green drives. :) Damn, you changed it! I was going to say that was very fast for a 1.5 GB drive. :)
Yes I know it's terabytes not gigsbytes - it's called deliberate irony.

They're alright.
I've had one die on me last month... lost 1 tb of data.. it was the green series
Not to mention their RMA process is kinda iffy and insecure as they require you to pay for your own postage then ship it to an address that is a DHL transfer depot..... Maybe its going to the states and its to save postage, dunno but still.
Other companies usually include a free shipping label for RMA's and a direct address.

I haven't seen one company that pays for the shipping to their depot. I usually pay shipping to send the drive in for RMA. They pay shipping back to me. I have dealt with Seagate, WD, IBM, Toshiba and Fujitsu to name a few.
The only exception is those Seagate 7200.11 that were plagued with firmware issues. I have one just died on me and Seagate pays for the shipping both way and data recovery.

Agreed... never had a company pay shipping before... my WD green drives are running great... have 4x1TB in two RAID1 arrays.

Is this a good HD to put inside an enclosure? Or should I consider a RAID system?

I will be doing the same when I get mine, although I will make it a couple 1.5s or 2s. This may be the deal to make me bite.

I just picked up two of these drives for a HTPC build I am doing for my friend now. I have one of these in my media server at home as well running 24/7 and it is much quieter then my Seagate 1.5tb drives. Speaking of RMA, I just got 2x seagate 1.5tb for RMA which I bought for another friend this past May >:(

The specs at Infonec are incorrect - it is NOT a 7200rpm drive. WD lists "Intellipower" under rotational speed - code for 5400rpm just like the 1TB and 2TB version.

I heard that the WD Green drives aren't meant to handle the rigours of RAID. How long have you had them running in RAID?

Don't know if you were referring to the pre-Lenovo period when you said "IBM", but Lenovo sent me a new hard drive for my laptop and included a Xpresspost label for me to send the old one back. They didn't even ask for my credit card number (but I'm sure they can easily look for it by the one I paid for my laptop). Anyways, props to them.

I dont think he is talking about that in the way you say. If you buy a laptop and something goes wrong, yes they will send it. If you buy the parts separately, not so much.

I don't know where you heard such a thing besides Seagate astroturfers. They would be my first choice to store important data with lower thermals than other HDs

Yeah that definitely makes sense, but I did do some digging around and found the page I read it on:

I guess the issue wasn't specific to the GREEN drives but to WD non-"raid edition" drives. There is a fix mentioned in that thread.
Essentially, the regular, non raid edition drives go into deep recovery mode which causes the RAID controller to stop seeing the drive. But there is a link to hardforums that includes a utility to enable TLER which is a function that fixes that problem.
