Microsoft stopped manufacturing the original xbox years ago.
They intentionally chose to bury that platform when they released the 360.
EA Sports and 2K Sports were the only companies under contractual obligation to develop games for the original Xbox for the past 3 years.
No developers would intentionally put resources into developing for a dead platform.



On the original Xbox, Madden 08 sold 220k. Madden 09 sold 110k.

That's one of the main reasons why the 360 has outsold the PS3 for the most part (even without the one-year headstart). Think of how many PS2 units have been sold since the PS3 launched, and how many PS2 owners are happily playing away while they wait for a sub-$300 price point to make the transition. Looks like that day is about to arrive...

Still, Sony has profited all this time off all those PS2 sales so it has to soften the blow on the PS3 side while they turn the corner on profitability.

You should go into the customer service section on SI.com and log into your account. There should be a link on the top regarding Gift Subscriptions. When I click that, I can see my old gift subscription as well as my new gift subscription.

My friend's subscription is supposed to start this week I think. I got 56 issues, a T-Shirt and a fleece (yes, crappy quality) for under $50 and my friend gets 56 issues for $5, so I am happy with that deal.

Of course no one would put resources towards developing XBOX-only titles, but we're just talking about a basic port. That's Mickey Mouse between titles, especially sports updates, and it's clear that Microsoft intentionally withheld XB licenses after the XB360 release.

It might be worth noting that ALL SI subscriptions with bonus offers come with Automatic renewal, they will automatically bill your credit card with a renewal subscription. I signed up for a 28 issues promo last year and they billed me again in January. So if you only want to receive the number of magazines in the subscription make sure to cancel.

I picked up this deal. I've never tried SI, and the price of the subscription + the price of the game = a good deal.

I actually really enjoy SI. I've had 2 or 3 short subscriptions over the last 4 or 5 years, usually because of Publisher's Clearing House. I'd NEVER pay full price for it, but it's an entertaining magazine for a sports fan. The 'behind the scenes' type articles in the athletes lives would be my favourite part, and something you don't usually get on TV.

If you were someone willing to buy Madden10 near release date AND pay regular price, this is a GREAT deal. At the very least, you have some bathroom reading material thrown in. And because SI is weekly it seriously feels like there's a new magazine in your mailbox every second day.

I'm in the same boat. Subscribed to SI before, just renewed as well. They more than happily canceled my renewal and refunded me the $69 from that autorenewal.

Now instead I'm getting the $58 new half year subscription + madden and have a reminder on my calendar to cancel that autorenewal. Around Christmas they always offer something like a hoody or a fleece plus a full year subscription for ~60 CDN, so if you really like madden (like I do =p) you''ll end up paying around $120 for a year and a half of SI + the videogame. Which really means around $90 for a year and a half of SI (which is a pretty ok deal, you're basically paying half of the full year subscription price on a half year [as opposed to the crappy half year price]) and $30 for madden (which is a pretty good deal) as long as you remember to cancel the autorenewal at the end of 6 months (the half year subscription costs much more than the full year per issue).

Assuming you want to renew in the first place...If you don't its just like getting 6 months of SI for free (as has been said many times before).

this is exactly why i didnt buy a 360 and went for a ps3. their support for their older gen system meant disrespect to those who purchased it. while i'm all for new gen, but at the time, i had no need for a next gen system. and i still very much enjoyed my xbox. it was also working fine, and i invested a lot of money into it (4 controllers and close to 30 games) so i wanted to use it to it's maximum potential. it also helped that my bro and i enjoyed playing co-op halo 1 and 2 on there. so, sorry microsoft. hello sony.

IMHO, MS did the right thing. XBox was a money hemoraging first step to get into the console market that was costing MS more money to support with little return (with that small install base, very few publishers were clamouring to stay on it). MS needed to throw all their weight behind the 360 to get some leverage over the PS3. How many folks complained about their sparse PS3 options the first year while watching the PS2 still have support?

For me I buy the sports games I like every 2 years except big games that I love like NHL.

But for example I have MLB 2k8 and Madden 08 so this year i'll be getting Mlb 2k10 (if thats what their calling it) and Madden 10.

I find that it keeps the games more interesting and also by saving some coin.

I also checked their fine print, and it says that the gifts will be shipped no later than 6 weeks after their order date. I argued about my order date (in reality a week prior to the date they had on file), and they didn't care.

Here is what they wrote...

I always thought that was kinda weird - orphaning an entire generation of consoles and losing a TON of license fees, while others like the PS2 continue to get new and hot releases. I realize the PS2 has a larger base, and is available for sale, but still...

I can understand concentrating on the XB360, but the absolute key releases should still get an XB release.

You should have kept it, and disputed the charge with VISA - you are not responsible for charges you did not authorize, and this is a well-known scam that your CC would have easily reversed for you.

But the earlier information was correct and I've read it at a couple places - SI is getting a big Madden shipment in this week and will be mailing out the games then. I don't expect to see my game until next week.

I just got my first issue yesterday and that's the August 24th issue.

When I called SI directly last week they said they were getting their game shipment in this week and would be mailing the games out then. I've read the same thing at a few different locations on the web. I can only hope it's true. I'll probably call again at the end of the week and update my status here.

So far I haven't read anyone that has signed up for this deal that has got their game copy. One guy in the states was told his shipped but I don't know how much we should rely on the CS people for SI.

OMG, I think I know what SI is doing!!! I think all of the SI CS reps are just giving us a estimated date of the Madden 10 shipment. If they say I have to wait for the next shipment I'm just going to cancel and pay for my two issues. This is ridiculous. When people signed up for this deal, I'm sure they thought they would get the game in a reasonable amount of time. When this was first posted, I was about to order the deal, but I suddenly got a feeling that "this situation is going to turn out bad" so I didn't go through with it.

I just got off the phone and I was rather ticked off and looking to cancel this deal but the CS woman on the phone told me they got their shipment in on Tuesday and it was enough games to cover everyone. She said it takes 7-10 days to ship. I told her I read reports of 3-4 weeks and she said 7-10 days. I really don't know if I should believe her or not but I didn't cancel. It was the Florida call center for me too. I got my second issue yesterday though. The game better be in full case with instruction booklet. I have no reason to think otherwise. Right now I just want the truth.

At least the info seems more credible and sounds like we should be getting our games at some point. I never thought I might get the game after the NFL season has started though. Still a chance of that.

Happened to me too and I know for a fact that I checked off PS3 so they must of screwed up in the processing, I called and talked to the person and he changed it, no questions asked.

No one living in Canada will have to pay duty, im 100% sure of that. As far as the game, i heard from other people that its in retail packaging but instead of a upc code, it says "Not For Resale", so i guess i cant exchange it for a different game :( Since you live in Windsor, you will probaly get the game before me, I will wait a couple of more days to get mine then!

As for the UPC code being swapped out with "not for sale", I guess I will just e-bay the game then if I don't like it. That does suck though.

A guy on another website got his copy and said there IS a UPC code. There's just a sticker above it that says "Not for resale." He said it took him 3 minutes to remove.

I don't care about exchanging it. I will be opening it but if I don't like it I would like to be able to trade it in at EB or BBV if I want. As long as it's got a working UPC code I can still do that. A used Madden 10 copy is still worth about $40 right now.

EB will take 100% without UPC code... BBV u can do it at some stores... i traded a GH3 without a UPC at BBV, they just looked it up and it was fine.

This is getting annoying. Got my first issue of SI on Tuesday, but still no game.

And because they flagged my game version as PS2, I had to call in to change that last week... and the game status is now 'your Madden 10 was replaced' on Aug 29th.

First of all, I'm fairly certain I selected PS3 when I submitted the order. It can't just be me because there are a lot of other readers with the same problem.

Have you tried logging in using your customer number? I couldn't log in using my address but the customer number worked and I could log in.

I've gotten three issues, but the game was delayed and my subscription nearly cancelled because of some error, either on my side with inputting the CC, or on their end. If I hadn't logged in to their website to check, this week's issue would've been my last, I wouldn't have gotten the game ever, and they would've mailed me a bill for about $7 to cover the three issues I got.

Not sure about swimsuit edition, make sure you cancel your account though because they do have the auto-renew subscription policy, so they'll charge your credit card for another subscription without you knowing. I just want my Madden... :(

I want to apologize. Last week I said my co-worker's son got his copy of Madden 10. Apparently he did not. He had just borrowed a friend's copy of Madden 10 and my co-worker just assumed it had come in. So at this point, I don't think a single Canadian has received their SI copy of Madden. But I have seen quite a few Americans on message boards that got their copy at the end of last week. I have to think we will get ours soon. The season opens on Thursday for crying out loud.

I guess the one positive is that the roster update today will be very accurate for us. Plus the first patch is awful close to being released. Not sure what is going to be patched but it was sent in at least a week ago for certification and should probably be out this week or next week.

Same as me. I ordered this offer as soon as I saw it here which was the first week of August. For them to ship it out two weeks after release is lousy. For them to strap them to a homeless person and walk it directly to my house is also lousy. Maybe they used a bicycle carrier.

I've received the game but not DVD (on my subscribers menu the DVD shipped a full week before the game so go figure).

I called SI and was told it takes 15-20 days to shop to Canada!!!!! He has no answer to why my status was changed to replaced from mailed. He then adds it will arrive in 4 days. Well how his that possible if it hasn't been mailed yet according to their files now.

I'm going to bend over and take it I guess. I don't know what I would have to pay to ship this game back if and when I get it. Getting SI and the game for under C$60 is still a good deal. What else can we really do? Might as well wait a little longer I guess and just flame SI here. :)

Called SI again. Lady was very unhelpful as she said game should have arrived by now and no clue whats going on. I was transferred to another Client Service individual and a lady claimed the delay was due to their system showing PS3 was replaced on Aug 29. However she had no clue whether the game had been shipped or not. They cannot reissue another game so she ended cancelling my subscription and giving me a full refund (hopefully this is the case).

Guess I'll be buying at FS for 59.99 this weekend.

Walmart has a sale on it for $48 starting today for a week. I got my DVD yesterday so I'm assuming my game will be really soon. If it doesn't come today I swear I should just cancel and go buy the game myself.

The game has been out for 5 weeks! I think I'm just going to call and cancel. I don't even care anymore and I don't even have the time to play Madden with Marvel out now and Uncharted 2 next month. Screw SI.

But I'm not even looking to screw anyone over. I feel I got screwed over. I have no problem sending the game back to them if it doesn't cost me anything. The game has been out 5 weeks and normal retailers get the game up to a week early so it can be on store shelves for the street date. SI was completely unprepared for the support for this offer and I feel lied to the consumer about when the game would be available. When I called to complain three weeks ago, I was awful close to cancelling and I was told 7-10 business days for me to get it. It was shipped August 29th which is three weeks ago. There is no good excuse for this terrible service.

I officially sent a cancellation request in to SI. If I get my money back I will be very happy. I don't even think I'm going to go out and buy Madden anymore. Maybe I'll rent it in November when I have more time to actually play it. I had time in late August and the first two weeks of September.

I'm just keeping the game. I told them I got the game and now they said I would have to send it back. Of course it took them almost 2 or 3 e-mails to realize what I was trying to say when I told them I got the game on Monday. I guess there isn't a stock answer for that one.

Anyway, it's just not worth the hassle of going through sending the game back. I've been gone for 3 days due to work and will finally be able to play it tonight. I hope it's worth it. The first patch came out so that and the new rosters should make the game better.
