Supposed to be cooler (temperature wise) to sleep on.

This is very appealing to me. I lose a lot of sleep because of the heat from my bed.

I'm hoping i can find these sheets at Home Outfittrs too.

does anyone know of a ballpark price?

i bought a bamboo fibre pillow last week at bath and beyond, but they didn't carry the bedsheets.

I must say this is one of the coolest pillows i've slept with. I usually have 2-3 pillows lined up on my bed, and go through rotation. But i've been very satisfied with this pillow.

I can't wait for my bedsheets to get here. Hopefully they are cool enough to offset the heat of a memory foam mattress.

I have the wamsutta bamboo sheets. Absolutely love them. Nice and cool in the summer and ever so soft. They wash really well too. I bought mine from Home Outfitters during a bogo event.

i bought a bamboo fibre pillow.

What's the firmness like? Is it light and fluffy like a down pillow?

edit: i have a problem with my neck and am looking for a comfortable pillow (that isn't hot like foam pillows).

Bamboo is good but I think the fibres dont last that long.
If you are gonna spend on quality sheets, but some silk ones.

Also, I'd also like to inquire about your pillow heh.

It's very soft.. Not what im used to. But it stays cool and i like it. I guess it's a trade off.
I enjoy the firmness of a foam pillow, but the heat is unbearable.

The one i got isn't as big and fluffy as regular down pillows though. Pretty flat and limp.

It's seems challenging to find any bamboo bed products here. Im going to check sleep country canada next.

Was using some bamboo cotton blend sheets last year at Home Outfitters and liked them, but I recently found some some 100% Bamboo sheets at Down Under in Toronto a couple months ago....they were just over $100 bucks for a queen set. Last week I walked by there Beaches store and they had a big blowout on 100% Bamboo Sheets....$15 for each sheet. People were buying 5 or 6 at a time

I've been sleeping on them for a while now and I've been sleeping well! They're really soft and they seem very breathable. They don't stick to me when it's warm and they feel cooler.

Oh.
you have to get one of the Mediflow water filled pillows.
Shoppers Drug mart has them and they are usually $50 or so and they have a down filled one for more or else polyester filled.
And one layer is the featers or stuffing and the rest the part you fill with water-as much as 6 liters I think-but they say in the instructions to fill until what is comfortable for you might be more or less....

This pillow was reccomended to me by the physiotherapy place I went to.
I have not found the pillow too hot and the only "issue" i have a bit is it is a heavy pillow if you try and move it around, lol.

But since this posting is supposed to be about Bamboo sheets.
I thought that bamboo was the same as rayon?
That is at least what I have read so far:

http://organicclothing.blogs.com/my_weblog/2007/09/bamboo-facts-be.html

There are two ways to process bamboo to make the plant into a fabric: mechanically or chemically. The mechanical way is by crushing the woody parts of the bamboo plant and then use natural enzymes to break the bamboo walls into a mushy mass so that the natural fibers can be mechanically combed out and spun into yarn. This is essentially the same eco-friendly manufacturing process used to produce linen fabric from flax or hemp. Bamboo fabric made from this process is sometimes called bamboo linen. Very little bamboo linen is manufactured for clothing because it is more labor intensive and costly.

Chemically manufactured bamboo fiber is a regenerated cellulose fiber similar to rayon or modal. Chemically manufactured bamboo is sometimes called bamboo rayon because of the many similarities in the way it is chemically manufactured and similarities in its feel and hand.

Most bamboo fabric that is the current eco-fashion rage is chemically manufactured by “cooking” the bamboo leaves and woody shoots in strong chemical solvents such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH – also known as caustic soda or lye) and carbon disulfide in a process also known as hydrolysis alkalization combined with multi-phase bleaching. Both sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide have been linked to serious health problems. Breathing low levels of carbon disulfide can cause tiredness, headache and nerve damage. Carbon disulfide has been shown to cause neural disorders in workers at rayon manufacturers. Low levels of exposure to sodium hydroxide can cause irritation of the skin and eyes. Sodium hydroxide is a strong alkaline base also known as caustic soda or lye. In its dry crystalline form, caustic soda is one of the major ingredients of Drano. This is basically the same process used to make rayon from wood or cotton waste byproducts. Because of the potential health risks and damage to the environment surrounding the manufacturing facilities, textile manufacturing processes for bamboo or other regenerated fibers using hydrolysis alkalization with multi-phase bleaching are not considered sustainable or environmentally supportable.

I have never tried these sheets materials, but have to say they do look interesting.
I have a bamboo and cotton towel and washcloth from lands end and they are sooooo soft.
I also just bought a 300 thread count 100% cotton sheet set from Lands End for $20,that was the Queen size w 2 sheets and 2 pillow cases :)
it has been very "crisp" to sleep on so far :)

I recently purchased set of Bamboo Sheets from SleepSoSoft.com/BambooSheets (http://www.sleepsosoft.com) as a gift for my wife.

She says that it is one of the best gifts she ever got. Besides looking great, they feel amazing- buttery soft, kind of satin like feel but NOT slippery like satin.

I heard that the bamboo fiber is hypo-allergenic and repels dust mites (bed bugs) which was important because my wife has asthma.

Buyer beware, like anything else you can find cheaper bamboo sheets out there, but there are many bamboo sheets that are not 100% pure bamboo, they are cotton blends, or inferior bamboo with lower thread counts (look for anything over 300 thread count) and while they are somewhat better than standard cotton, they are nothing like the real thing. There are not many places that sell 100% certified pure organic bamboo fiber sheets. I paid $189 at Bamboo Sheets Online (http://sleepsosoft.com/beauty_of_bamboo.html) for Queen Size and shipping was free.

The set included a fitted sheet (with extra deep pockets), a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. My wife was concerned about care and washing, but so far no problems cleaning them in the washing machine.

One thing is certain.. once you sleep on Bamboo Sheets, you'll never go back to cotton!

Regards,

StevenO

I had one of those pillows for my chronic sore neck and I just couldn't use it. Every time you moved your head the sound of the water sloshing around right by my ear triggered the "call of nature".

Getting up to go to the bathroom 4+ times a night made this pillow just not worth it.

The coxwell and danforth store is what i was gonna mention to you too.

Bamboo is the most resilient weed ever, the more you try to destroy it the more it grows, it's amaizing that they sell the prducts so expensive.

As for the processes they use, yeah that poster is right on the money, it's pretty much the same way they make paper at a paper mill.

The Bay.

I went to a Bay store and they told me they don't carry Bamboo Sheets.

I don't understand how something sustainable can take a 100 years to become mainstream, and even then, impossible to find.

Apparently Bamboo fabric fabrics are basically rayon, man-made.

I highly recommend people buy silk sheets and/or comforters.

More from the FTC:

Have You Been Bamboozled by Bamboo Fabrics?

Looking to be a more environmentally conscious shopper? You’ve probably heard about bamboo. Bamboo stands out for its ability to grow quickly with little or no need for pesticides, and it is used in a variety of products, from flooring to furniture. But when it comes to soft bamboo textiles, like shirts or sheets, there’s a catch: they’re actually rayon.

The Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency, wants you to know that the soft “bamboo” fabrics on the market today are rayon. They are made using toxic chemicals in a process that releases pollutants into the air. Extracting bamboo fibers is expensive and time-consuming, and textiles made just from bamboo fiber don’t feel silky smooth.

There’s also no evidence that rayon made from bamboo retains the antimicrobial properties of the bamboo plant, as some sellers and manufacturers claim. Even when bamboo is the “plant source” used to create rayon, no traits of the original plant are left in the finished product.

Companies that claim a product is “bamboo” should have reliable evidence, like scientific tests and analyses, to show that it’s made of actual bamboo fiber.

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261.
