Hello RFD,
I am in the market for a Crossover and am leaning towards the Ford Edge. Any thoughts on this niche? I hear the Toyota Venza is getting a lot of attention.
Any input is greatly appreciate.

The Edge was on our short-list (along with Venza, CRV; also looked at/test drove the Rogue & Grand Vitara) Ended up picking up a FWD V6 Venza

A very crowded segment (hardly a niche at all any more): Edge/MKX, CRV, RAV, Forester, Rogue, 2010 Equinox, Highlander, RDX, RX350, 2010 SRX, RDX, X3, Taurus X (if you can still find one), Santa Fe, Escape/Tribute, Journey, CX7, Outlander, etc. - there are advantages and disadvantages to all of these (mostly) 5 passenger unibody SUV-like vehicles.
I personally don't see much between the value of the above models (I didn't list the ones that I would personally avoid - either because of reputation or style) - some offer more than others but are priced accordingly. Your choice will depend on what features and characteristics you want and how much you're willing to pay.
Venza's more of a wagon - although its ground clearance is currently crossover-like (that's supposed to change next year) and would be worth adding to the list. They are, IMO, a tad overpriced right now.
Right now, I think that the 2010 Equinox is the crossover to watch - it's getting a lot of very favourable reviews: http://www.canadiandriver.com/2009/07/20/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-equinox.htm?page=all
So, if I had to do a test drive short list? Equinox, CRV, RAV4, Edge, Venza, Santa Fe, Forester, or Rogue. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Thanks everyone.
The Q5 and VW are too steep in price for me at the moment, I just graduated.
Capt, your short list is similar to mine.....though I did not consider the Equinox but will now.
Cheers.
