I am planning to get a car and I just wanted to know what the advantages and disadvantages are of putting the car with the plan my parents currently have for their car. I am also in that plan my parents have as one of the drivers but they are fully licensed while I am not

If you register the car in your parents name they can put it on their policy as the policy has to read the same as the vehicle ownership. If this is the 3rd vehicle added to the policy and both your parents have a car already on the policy, you will be rated as the princ operator.

Speak with several brokers. The more brokers you speak with, the better your options will be in finding the right insurance fit for you.

I would shop around and speak with a Broker as they can shop the market for you since they usually have several different insurers in their office.

You cannot add it to the policy because it would be in your name. The policy MUST read the same as the ownership.

So do you think I would be better off registering the car in my parents name or in my name? and what are the benefits or disadvantages of being rated as the prinicipal operator like you mentioned above. Thanks for your help

I cannot tell you what or how to register your car - just the facts on how the car would be rated depending on how it was registered. If you are going to be the principle op regardless, the premium would be the same ....whoever the vehicle is registered to as mentioned, the policy would have to read the same. If there ever was a loss and a payout was made, it would be made to the policy owner who is also the registered owner of the vehicle.
