I once dodged a toll booth (7 months ago) because I was too late to get to the cash booth and the ez-pass booth was right smack in my face when i exit the ramp. The toll was $8 for getting to NYC.
Nothing came to my mail, nobody called me to pay the toll via CC.

My question is what do the Americans do when they took pictures of Canadian car plates who did not pay toll? Do they have some kind of limit before they start chasing u for the $ across the border?

Yes,
if its first time they let it go. If you do the same again and again, they come after you. Once it happened to me. I passed thru an EZ pass without any EZ pass transponder. I thought i would get a ticket/fine something like that. But I never got anything. Later i came to know from one of my friend who is a cop, they let you go for the first time. Even when passing thru coin toll booths (not cash booths) if you don't have any coins, just honk couple of times and pass thru. You never get any tickets/fine.

Wow...this is not true. Or at least not mine or my sister's experience. I was visiting my sister in New York, and on the way there I didn't realise I had to pay, so I went through. Stopped by a cop.

My sister, who lives in NY, uses her EZpass all the time. Once though she was late to a doctor's appointment (she's pregnant). Drove through and stopped by a cop.

So going through without paying is at you're own risk.

That might be your bad day. Generally at Coin booths no cops would be watching you. I have passed lot of times thru a coin toll booths when i don't have any change in my pocket.

At coin booths there would be a coin booth operator who monitors the vehicles whether drivers are throwing coins or not. If any driver does not have sufficient coins or no coins to throw, couple of honks, the guy comes to your lane and presses a button to change the red light to green. So you are good to go.:o

*******s, stop trying to skirt the system.

It's *******s like you guys that they start putting the barrier gates that go up and up and down, making me slow down even more in the EZ-Pass lane, then again EZ-Pass express should be installed on all places where you can fly through at highway speeds

I don't see how hard it is to figure out which lane to go to. You're given plenty of warning that toll booths are coming up ahead. Maybe the combination of blinking yellow lights, purple ez pass signs, red cash signs confuses you?

My stock pile of US coins in a change purse...I kinda liked throwing them the hole like they do in the movies...I also wonder if all toll booth operators live like Adam sandler in Big Daddy.

in GTAIV it's a one star wanted level.

Just drive out of the red zone and you'll be fine.

And yeah i agree with above poster. How can you not know there is a toll coming up? Its not like they try to hide it from you.

Obviously that won't work 99% of the time. Think about it, what's the point of tolls if only unlucky people pay, and if so much revenue was lost, they'd definitely start enforcing the system.

Hold on. Stopped by a cop???? That doesn't make sense. You mean if there is no cop they dont have any kind of cameras to take pictures of your plate and they actually use cops to chase their $?

I use to think they will take a picture of your plate. A central system will sort out these plates and get the drivers info from respective state. Then they send u letters saying that at ths date u passed through ez-pass at this place blah blah blah and ask u to pay violations via credit card.

They have cops stations in some booth areas for other security reasons. In a slow day, they need to find something to do.

Is that rule similar to the one where putting your 4-way flashers on automatically exempts you from the fire-route parking prohibition?

I guess if you get pulled over for speeding you can just activate your winshield wipers and that will get you out of that as well eh? hahahaha

Drive on country roads or rush the toll booth and get off the interstate right away (like Harold and Kumar) and then they went on to meet a weird couple that live in the woods.

lol

Actually, this is what you're supposed to do. I recall many years ago on the Garden State Parkway where they have they used to have the toll booths with the 35 cents that you chuck into the basket, it would tell you to honk your horn if it didn't register, and you would then proceed to drive through.
