After reading this on a different thread..

and we'll include license fees, which was 75$ (licence) + 60$ (toronto tax) + apprx 20$ (new plate)

Wanted to clarify that you only pay the $60 per year "personal tax" when you renew you sticker (and your postal code starts with an M).

You do not pay it when you buy a new plate or transfer a plate from one car to another.

Typical MTO charges:

Replace a lost/incomplete ownership $10

Transfer a plate from one car to another (while a valid sticker is in place) $10

New Plate: is based on the following approximately

((# of months until your next birthday) * 6.15) + $20 for a new plate)
* max will be $106.35 for 14 months.
* min will be $38.50 for 2 months

If this is what is listed on the MTO site, cut and paste the info to the dealer and attach the link for their reference.

10. I just bought a car and am getting a new licence plate - will I have to pay the PVT?

No. The PVT will only apply when you are renewing your licence plate.

If the PVT is $60, and from Jeff's post, a brand new plate is $20 + the sticker, then everyone in Toronto will be getting new plates every 2 years. Unless they plugged up that hole.
