He was awesome in Reservoir Dogs. Now that I think of it, that movie featured an all star cast of actors who don't get alot of recognition: Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, etc;
Personally, I think Guy Pierce is very under rated. Definately deserves more recognition for the roles he plays (he was kick a$$ in Memento)

1. John Cusack - He was amazing in High Fidelity. But he is an "oddball" so he doesn't always get noticed.
2. Underworld - I actually enjoyed this movie. For some reason it got sh!tty reviews. Oh well.
I'll have to think about this some more.

You probably enjoyed it because it had Kate Beckinsale looking pretty great in a black PVC catsuit! [I think that was the ONLY redeeming quality of that film].
As for underated actors/actresses....hmmm...I'll also need to think about this further...

I'd actually have to go with Johny Depp (albeit he's been in some pretty bad films).
Hervey Keitel is another under-rated actor.
Film: hmmm... have to come back to this one.

Best Gangsta Movie after Scarface.

A long time ago I saw King of New York, cant really remember it other than the fact that I liked it. FDTD 2 sucked but 3 wasnt bad. Suicide Kings was another good walken one.

As for underrated actors, Jim Caviezel was on that list up until a couple of months ago. I first noticed him in Frequency, and then in The Thin Red Line. He's a pretty good actor. But now that he's garnered a lot of recognition playing Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, he's probably not as underrated anymore. He did a tremendous job in a very difficult role.
An underrated actor is Adam Beach. He was in Windtalkers and Smoke Signals. I don't think he has garnered a lot of attention because of the relatively low demand for First Nations actors, and/or low supply of roles for First Nations actors.
As for underrated movies, that's hard to say. There are plenty of movies that haven't received a lot of attention for one reason or another. I think the aforementioned movie, Smoke Signals, is a good movie that deserved more recognition. I think The Killer, directed by John Woo is relatively underrated. The movie has a cultish following, but I don't think it is really well known amongst mainstream and/or casual fans, at least the fans I talk to. I highly recommend The Killer.

maybe because it was never in cinemas in north america?
if you're gonna go that route maybe we should name all amazing japanese movies since no one in north america has ever heard of them
End of Eva
Ghost in a Shell
Jin-Roh
korean?
Sex is Zero (ROFL)
My Sassy Girl
Shiri
Chinese?
Infernal Affairs series
Naked Ambition (ROFL)
etc etc etc
only movie people know about is Spirited Away because it WAS in cinemas
I think underratted should be movies that people had the oppourtunity to see (ie it was in cinemas so they could concievably have seen a trailer, read the news, or heard about it in some way) but didnt watch them
i just dont think naming foreign films is really valid

i would hardly call someone voted most sexy actor, on the cover of hundreds of magazines, etc a underrated guy!!! yah maybe 2 years ago depp was underrated but not anymore...
i think Tim Robbins is highly overrated, i watched mystic river and thought it was awful and his acting was even worse. i saw him interview on daily show about his little play in new york and realized the guy is a total tool...

Jason Lee was in Almost Famous, and did a good job in it, if you havn't seen it, you should check it out.
As for my pick hmmmmm the only Actor I can think of is Edword Norton, but I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, as for a movie, I think the Royal Tenebaums was just dandy, also I don't think enough people have seen the pianist.

This thread title makes no sense, Most under rated movies or Most under actors movies. what does that mean, or Most under rated actor's movies... come on man! anyways.
I watched Ghost Dog recently specifically because I heard it was an excellent but underated film. Even after the hype and my criticality (word?) I thought it was original and entertaining, nice style. So I definately recommend it to anyone.
I'm sure everyone has heard how good Boondock Saints is... I'll second that. Damn good, not great.
If you haven't seen NARC I would recommend it very strongly. It IS a great movie. All around awsome movie. Easily top 10 material for me. It is crazy to me that so many people didn't see this, Or that paramount didn't advertise it way more. I could have done better if more people knew about it. Its directed by Joe Carnahan (sp?), the guy who is going to direct MI:3. So you should watch it and maybe get a taste of his style. Hopefully when he makes MI:3 it won't too toned down or cookie cutter so as to please a bigger audience.

Not sure if one would consider him under-rated..but one of my favorites seems to just blend in... not in the limelight as some of the others....
Cuba Gooding Jr.
I guess it's his low key type of personality... kinda strikes me as a 'down to earth' guy.

audrey Tautou in

Morgan Freeman. This dude is one of my favorite actors, and I've never seen him in a bad movie EVER. I admit he plays a lot of the same roles (Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider, Seven), but he makes each one great. He should have won tons of awards for "Shawshank Redemption" but I think he didn't because he was Black or some ******** reason.
Anyway, he better win a Lifetime Achievement award or some huge recognition because this guy is amazing!

Did you see Dreamcatcher? Blah....
I think Ewan McGregor is very underrated, just look at Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge (he's got pretty good pipes), and Big Fish.
I would include Trainspotting as an underrated movie....

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but rather than start a new one...
Just saw L.A. Story again today. Great movie - has never gotten the recognition it deserves. Steve Martin worked on it for about seven years, and you could truly call it his masterpiece.
It's not the easiest movie to find, but it's worth the effort to track it down.

An actor that just came to mind for me is Jason Biggs (american pie). And I recently saw him in woody allen's Anything Else and thought he was great. Furthermore, Anything Else was very good in my opinion, entertaining all the way through. Oh and Christina Reechi (sp?) is in it too, also under rated.

i dont' know if anyone is going to agree with me but i think The Rock is underated.
id on't think anyone is giving him a FAIR chance because he comes from a WWE background.
i thought the rundown was a really good movie and he did a great job in it, but people are still judging him based on the fact that he's a wrestler rather than an actor.

I think Morgan Freeman is underrated. He is consistently great in every role I've seen him in.
I totally agree with you. His last few movies, minus Bruce Almighty, he's pretty much played the same character but he does it so damned well! I don't care what anyone says, he should have won some sort of award if not an Oscar for "The Shawshank Redemption", its my fave movie of all time. I think he'll continue to not get awards for movies, but I think he WILL get a lifetime achievement sometime, hopefully soon.
I'll also second the motion for Bill Murray, he's a phenomenal actor. Whether it be comedy or drama he's great! I don't know how he didn't get an award for his last one, it was very good (sorry, I can't remember its name at the moment). He was also VERY good in "Groundhog Day", another movie thats very underrated. Its on all the time on TBS and I watch it everytime, still entertaining after all these years.

how bout Jim Carrey for most underrated actor?
Everyone thinks of him for comedy, but he's done some pretty good drama's...
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for example is an awesome movie, and he was great in it

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, and I might get flamed for this, but I think John Travolta has got to be one of the most overrated actors out there. He's got a $20 million per picture salary, which I don't think makes economic sense, nor do I consider his name to be a particularly strong marquee draw. He's made some questionable movies over the past decade, none of which I would really care to watch again, with the possible exception of Pulp Fiction.

Most underrated is Philip Seymour Hoffman. There is NOTHING this man cannot pull off. He says more in one look than most actors do in a page of dialogue. I also think John Turturro is vastly underappreciated.

Thought he would have gotten a nomination for "The Woodsman".
Great performance.
Maybe a bunch of academy voters got put off by the character he was playing.
