yea I heard of this sale last weekend.
Went on Saturday afternoon to 4 Wal-Mart stores in Durham region ON. Only found one that had a set in stock, and it was display only.
No thanks.

They were clearing out old models to bring in the new stuff. One guy said they were getting a bunch of LG sets in. So who knows.

I passed up the Sanyo 42" 1080p for $698 but bought this one at Burlington Walmart today. I was planning to purchase the Visio 120Hz 1080p 42" at Costco ($1198) but for half of the price, I can live with the 60Hz. Stood there for half an hour and the picture and sound seems fine so I bite. Thanks OP.

Did you still have to pay $599 for the display model? What did the display model come with? Remote, Manual, Table top stand? Also, did you get the Vizio model with the silver bottom speakers or the all black with the shiny frame?

Not sure what the price of the display one was since I got one BNIB. It is all black. I think the plasma 720 is black/silver.

The black/silver is also 1080p LCD but it is a previous year model. I actually watched the all black (current year model, glossy finish) and the black/silver (matte finish) side by side today. They only have the all black BNIB so I took one.

i'm not a huge fan of buying display models, as god knows what has happened to those and how many friggin' people have put their sweaty/dirty palms on it...10% on top isn't worth it for a display model, and they're usually only a little cheaper than BNIB ones

I'd keep the sanyo over the vizio display model (if you can find one) as they seem to be oos. if you can find a new vizio, grab that instead.

prices are going to continually drop as the new sets come out. the decision you have to make is living with your purchase, how much you spent and are you enjoying the tv?

Okay. I opened the box and set it up today. I don't have HD cable but it picks up some digital channels. I also tried out the regular DVD player @ 480i and it has already looked pretty good. The set looks pretty decent even with SD TV. It shows you I don't watch much TV and I am not a gamer too.

For the record, I purchased the Walmart 3 year in home service extended warranty as I see the LCD TV is not as solid as the tube TV in general. That works out to be 73 cents a day for three years. Not bad.

I'm moving mine to the basement. I think the pic quality is crap. It looks washed out even after tweaking the color settings. My brother has a 720p Panasonic Plasma and it blows this thing out of the water. I'm picky, I admit, and it is a budget TV.

Picked up the 42 inch last night at Burlington Walmart (Dundas@Appleby). Hooked it up to digital cable and was quite impressed...watched 'Death Race' (bad movie)

I have a 46 1080P Samsung LCD as my main tv and the Vizio is quite good. The brightness is the only downside, however this is going in the bedroom. I'm keeping it otherwise...688 out the door. I also seen the 32inch for $399 clearance. They had about 4 sets of each last night in stock.

I don't know why Walmart always has the VIZIO on display but hardly ever in stock in the box.
I'm sure they could sell some as they are a good brand.
I always thought that they had a very good inventory re-ordering system.:razz:

p.s. I always thought that VIZIO made their own brand.

My friend just gave the UPC to a store in Scarbourgh and they have 1 left at $599.99 but before this "maybe wrong model number" came up, they hung up already. I texted them to make sure it is the VW42LF and not the VW42L and they said "ok will check". EDIT: Yup it's the VW42LF, and the nice guy also checked other walmarts in the GTA (ALL are sold out).

If the item is OOS and not being restocked/aka "Non-Replenishable" and you get them to sell you the display model, it's another 10% off. It's policy at Wal-Mart.

Anyone buying a display model of this is looking at roughly $50 off sticker price.

When I spoke to the guy over the phone at the Vancouver store, he said 20% off since it was a display but the price he quoted was $700+, close to $800, not $599.

Anyway, I just thought he might not know that the item was on sale. At 20% off, I worked it out to be $480. A very tempting price, add in the extra 2 years warranty and pay it by a compatible credit card, you might be able to extend the warranty to 3 years. That said, it didn't have the stand or remote. I know I get get a wall mount and universal remote but decided against it. Just hate the idea that the TV has be left switched on for god knows how long. One good thing about it is that you know the TV is working... haha... good luck to anyone who gets it!!

It is the very first one in the list. However, I suspect it may not apply to your case. Here is thee cut & paste:

One important note to first time Flat Screen Buyers. The TV's in the store are basically mounted and turned on. The Visio has picture modes and it is preset to "cool" mode by default. If you are not aware of this when you are looking at them, it appears to have a slightly washed out effect on the picture (bluish tint). It is just a preset mode, I changed this to "Normal" picture mode and the colors were fantastic. Keep this in mind when comparing pictures in the store. TV's always have a default setting which is what they are all probably on.

I don't know why it is priced higher... It is the same 42 and it is a display model. When the guy was using the gun, it kept coming up as 748.... maybe I should go back in the morning and see if it has "mysteriously" been sold......
