It might be a little sooner than expected, but there will be a new Days of Deals event at Dell.ca (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=CAqD7bLWUPI&offerid=116095.10000636&type=3&subid=0) starting on Monday, July 13 and running until July 24 (weekends excluded). This time, it's from Dell Small Business. As usual, we'll be making official threads for each day to keep things organized.
Deals can go up as early as 6:00AM eastern time, but delays are not unheard of, and sometimes it may take a little longer for prices to update. Hot items can sell out fast though, so keep an eye out.
Day 2's deals are live!

There might not be a clear favourite today like Day 1's Garmin Nuvi 255w, I think there are at least 3 good deals. The D-Link 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure, the Intel E5200, and the Lorex Security System are all worth checking out.

yes, get a DVR card that supports the receivers output. However notice the freq is running at 2.4ghz which will interfere with your wireless(G+B).

e5200 overclocks brilliantly. Mine's at 3.5ghz with only 15% voltage increase and using stock cooler.
Thing's to know about it though, are that it has a high multiplier, but it doesn't handle the higher frequencies very well

Ordered the NAS (yes, the DNS-323 has a slightly hardier processor and the ability to hook up a USB printer (or possibly a HD?), but at this price I'm quite content with the DNS-321) and the processor, both of which will be great for my MAME cabinet project. Thanks OP!

Was looking at the dns-323 for a long time. The lowest price i saw was 129.99 at compu2000 about 2-3 weeks ago. However, the dns-321 is the newer version and the only difference i know of is absence of a usb print server port. funplug software works on both NAses.
Newegg has about 83 reviews on the 321 and seems like a good NAS. Firmware is at 1.03b7.

The might be more to it, but the reviews I've read sum it up to bittorrent download and printer server (USB plug). But it seems printer support isn't perfect in the 323, with compatibility issues with some printer, and if you've got an all-in-one you're pretty much screwed. That's what I understood from the reviews, anyway. I might be wrong.
PS: I mean built-in bittorrent support. While the 321's interface doesn't feature bittorrent download like the 323, it is apparently still possible to use it by other means.
DNS-323 compatibility list, to see if your printer would be supported (quite an anorexic list, none of mines are supported) and if you'd better jump on the 321 instead :

How is the 2.4 GHz Wireless Color Video Security System deal? thanks
It can't be connected to computers unless you have something like a All-in-wonder to digitize the video.
In my past experience, 2.4GHz wireless video is so-so. When they works, video is OK. But as soon as someone picks up their 2.4GHz cordless phone or other remote that uses 2.4GHz then you may have trouble. With the exception, in my case, 2.4GHz from WiFi, which doesn't seems to cause interference.

I ordered the Lorex camera, but I am thinking about cancelling the order.
My fear is that its cheap for a reason. The 5 hour battery life seems pretty useless. I can't be out for more than 5 hours at a time, and even if I am, I have to change the batteries 5 times a day?
Plus, the interference with my network would suck.
I dunno what to do. Maybe this is good for convenience store owners who have the time to change the batteries constantly, but I do not think this is a system for resedential property security.
I don't know. I'm leaning toward cancelling.

How is your MAME cabinet project coming along? I have a thread in the PC and Video Games Section if you want to see my progress. I will be wiring up my control panel this week once I get some screws and bolts from Brafasco. How did you plan on incorporating this NAS with your MAME cabinet? You were going to store the roms on it so it can be accessed via network? Just curious.

Interesting read on the NAS for Raid 1 failure in this review:
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30521/75/1/2
"And the 321 is the only product we've encountered that requires a fresh drive in order to correctly resync the RAID 1 array (at least for one of the drives!)."
Can anyone post their 323 experiences 323 with RAID failing on them? Same thing or not as tedious?

This is normal practice. Lots of company has volume licensing for say Windows XP Pro so they don't even need a preinstalled OS. Usually they just reimage the laptop and toss the OEM one aside.

I haven't tried any of the scanning features on my AIO yet, but prints ok. You can't really adjust the printer preferences (defaults to "normal" quality and colour printing) when it's on the network though. And no matter what printer you have, it will show up as 'LP' on DNS-323.
My printer isn't on the list either, but it still works (well basic printing atleast) As long as you have your printer driver, it should work.
Disclaimer: I have not tested whether its the storage or the (HP) printer itself, but the yellow ink does not seem to flow, thus giving me all messed up colour prints.
PS: Also, there's new DLink firmware for the DIR-655 as well as other dlink routers that enable you to connect a usb printer or flash drive for network use.

Another DNS-321 customer here. Hopefully Dell puts on a nice hard drive as well in the coming days!

I bought the NAS 321 too this morning. Did not get a confirmation email up until 2 min ago while I was typing on here.... telling you all how worried I was.
Anyways, its here now and ETA is 17 July.

I'm wondering if i should get green drives or not bother. Wondering what if any performance hit it would make?

I have two greens in a DNS-323 and I haven't noticed a smidge of a difference in performance. I only use the drives over my network (exclusively wireless), and there is no performance difference between that and streaming from my wired test server.
I think you'll only notice a bottleneck on incredibly fast networks (i.e. professional). I also found that the drives caused the DNS to run at a lower temperature, and should be burning less power (haven't tested power consumption).
I recommend the green drives for a DNS.

What kind of improvement will I get over my
80547 Pentium 4 Prescott DT Processor, 3.2GHZ, 1 MEGB 800FSB, SKT-T
in my Dell 4700?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Let me re-ask. Do you think it's worth the upgrade?

Has anyone seen this? Its way too technical for me. Can someone dumb it down for those new to programming?
