I was looking up satellite providers in North America and came up with Dish Network's Taiwan programming:

DirectTV and the Canadian providers' offerings don't even come close. Is DN the way to for Taiwanese TV programs? And does it matter if the programming comes in 100% digital quality? I am a newbie at this. I cancelled my cable half a year ago and have been d/l Taiwan TV program contents but this satellite programming will probably be the best solution for my family's TV viewing needs when we upgrade to HDTV.

My family would love to get these sort of programming and it's a good way to have my daughter immerse in Mandarin. Thanks for any additional info.

well well well, there isn't much selection in terms of chinese programming line up in North America besides Fairchild and Talentvision.

If you go the FTA satellite, you can get Phoenix satellite North America. These are the programming originating from mainland china. Brace yourself to read simplified chinese.

Check out the following link for satellite co-ordinate

I believe Directv has TVB USA programming (n/a to Canadian)

www.tvbusa.com has CCTV and TVBS and TVB

I think Dish specializes in Mandarin (Taiwan) while Directv is Cantonese (Jade/TVB) with a little Mandarin from mainland China.

Directv is strictly subscription while DN has the options of either subscription or pirate FTA .

There's also IP based subsrciption receivers, but you have to have a US friend to get one of these.

Thanks guys. It's good to know that it's DN that I should be targeting. I'll just have to read more about which devices are required including the N3 ROM 241 "G3" cards since this is my first foray into FTA satellite.
