Hello!

I'm looking to pick up an ipod touch in the near future but can't decide between the 8gb and the 16gb. For those of you who own the 8gb, do you find that you often need more memory? For those of you who own the 16gb, do you think 8gb would be sufficient enough?

I have 16GB and I only use about 8GB - I'm not a music fanatic. I use it mostly for web browsing, a few games & apps and podcasts.

I mean, you can always find ways to fill it up, but my typical playlists and podcasts usually add up to under 8GB's. The rest of my 16GB's is filled up by a smart playlist of random stuff to keep things fresh.

I'm guarantee all you need is 8gb unless you are a music nerd. I have a 16gb iPod touch and all I can fill up is roughly 5-7gbs

I'm also thinking about picking up an ipod touch, but since Apple always releases new ipods in September, I'll wait.

There's a new model that will come out soon. 3,1.

People have found hints of it in the OS and a few other places.
The new version should have a camera (Apple placed a huge order for Cameras in China).
As well, some web logs have been showing up with iPod Touch 3,1 in them.

Not saying that to stop you from buying one, but just to say that this current model will drop in price/value I'm sure quite a bit, and the next version will have surely more memory, faster processor, faster graphics and more features.

As for when "Soon" is... with Apple no one ever knows for sure, but September is a good guess.

Got a link to this by any chance?

i have an 8gb nano, and a 16gb iphone. neither one of them i've filled. the questions are:
-do you want to carry your entire music library?
-will you fill it with tv/movies/videos?

if no to either than 8gb is plenty. apps don't take up much room.

Do a search for iPod Touch on http://www.macrumors.com/

I'm pretty sure that's where I read some of the articles, and saw the new cases with the hole for the camera.

Was about to link there as well... especially their handy buyer's guide:

I have the 8GB version, and I'm more than happy with it. Of course, bigger is better. If you have the money, then go for the 16GB or even 32GB (which my boss has) by all means. But I think for a causal user, 8GB is more than enough. Just to give you an idea, here is the breakdown on my ipod touch: 5GB of music, 0.5GB of applications, 1GB of photos, 0.5GB of podcast, and some miscellaneous documents and contacts. Hope that helps.
