Hey Everyone, after tons of searching I've found that with Hertz I was able to get 184USD for a midsize after taxes and fees for a one week rental, pickup at an off airport location. I do have a bid at priceline which is cheaper than this, but not sure how confident I am it will go through.
Anyone have any tips for maybe getting a lower rate, last time I was in Orlando I didn't pay nearly this amount.

I'm searching for a good deal too! I'll be going for a week from July 12-19th.
For a compact I managed to find $370 including taxes/fees/insurance.

You can check out www.mousesavers.com for car rental deals in florida.
Payless car rental which is off site with shuttle is $248.31 including taxes and fees for your dates for a compact. It does not include insurance but you may want to see if your credit card has collision coverage.

I used priceline for a rental at Orlando last year; picked up at the airport: $19 per day for a Chrysler mini-van; people we were travelling with got an Equinox for $12 per day I think.
No problems picking it up or dropping off.
update: just checked my total cost; I paid $368.19 all in for a 14 day rental for a mini-van!

Is that in US funds? And did it include insurance? How much extra was insurance?

yes that was US funds; I did not get insurance from the rental agency; I am covered through my car insurance for rentals.
keep in mind that my price was for a 2 week rental; I think I saved about 50% from the best price I could get through the rental car websites.
I read somewhere that there a thousands of rental cars sitting in Orlando at any point of time; if business is slow you should be able to get a really good price through Priceline.

I used priceline and yes they came thru. Ended up with National Tilden in Houston Int. Airport. I was able to get a brand new Toyota highlander for 10 days @ $20/day!!!

That coupon is just a standard corporate discount; not much in savings I think. How much did you end up paying?

Car rentals on much of the continent are expensive. Because of the economic situation the car rental companes have stop buying new cars and sold off many of their existing cars. There are just much fewer cars available for rental these days.

typically, you can find codes for National and i recall we were booking for about 225-250 per week for a full size with an upgrade when we were down there in Sept. 2008...although last two times we had our own car...takes some hunting and my wife has always done this not me so i can not even tell you where she gets the codes from...

It ended up costing $209 including taxes and fees. This is the lowest I've found yet.
