I dont know if I will be banned or not for having the store name, if so, just sent me a pm to delete the name.

I was at pmall today looking to get a new pair of glasses, and as we all know there are like 100 eye glasses shops there. I went into Good-eyes Optical and noticed they have the exact same pair of Coach sunglasses my gf was looking at an official Coach retail store in Square One. They are the purple-ish colour with the word coach written on the side.

The ones in sq1 costs 148, and the ones in pmall costs 348. I inquired a lady about the price, and she said "Then you can go buy at the Coach store" (in chinese), and she scooted us out. I then said I was just asking about the price, im not trying to haggle you, and we left.

I dont really care about how much they mark the price up, nor do I care about the quality of Coach eye wear, but I do care about service. With this kind of attitude towards her work, it would be unlikely she'd succeed in life.

Just wanted to share this to warn anyone looking to buy new glasses not to go there.

Even though they're always very busy, I always get excellent customer service there. Sometimes it gets overwhelming, as they have so many staff just standing there waiting to help you.

Think about it from another point of view, Coach store is the manufacturer, they can price above manufacturing cost, and still make a profit. Of course you have to factor out rent, util and such.

Whereas reseller buy these sunglasses from Coach at the reseller price when it was first released (probably slightly lower than retail price.) Why the hell would they sell them to you at the discounted price?

If I were the sales, I would do the same thing  (Moving tangerines). That's like saying the farm is selling tomatoes for 99cents / lb, why is No Frills selling them for 1.49/ lb.

Just go to the Coach store and get it.

This is a new one. Something being sold at Pac Mall is actually more expensive than if purchased at the manufacturer's store! With Pac Mall's reputation I would be more concerned that they were knock-offs overpriced for tourists.

Still, the OP shouldn't have been treated this way. Imagine if someone at Costco told you to f-off, would you have just accepted it and thought that because they aren't a designer store its Ok for them to do? Probably not.

You cant read.
I said I wasnt trying to buy them there, I was just inquiring about the price, and was treated improperly as a consumer.

But you're NOT a consumer. You had no intention of being a consumer.

What was the purpose of the the inquiry? You weren't going to buy, they weren't for you, you just wanted to be snooty and point out part of the merchant's business plan that you don't agree with. I don't blame the salesperson at all.

i agree BUT the op shouldn't have been disrespected like that
the sales person could have just told the op that that is there price and if you found it cheaper then you have take your bussiness to that place.

If OP didn't like the price, go somewhere.

What's with the snooty attitude people, sheesh. Are you all employees at this place? Pardon me but you deserve a smack.

I shop around, I look at prices, I have questions. I bring up I saw this cheaper elsewhere, I would like to hear why the price at this location is more. I would like to be treated with respect and not automatically assume that I will not purchase something and shoo me out or move on to someone who looks like they are more willing to buy. I am 100% positive that most if not all of you feel the same when you venture out shopping. I am not the type to go into a place and look super interested (especially in pacific mall) because I will not be a sucker and pay the sticker price because we all know that is not what we should be paying (especially in p mall......I keep saying this a lot :)). I do not think I am entitled to a different price either. I look, I browse, I talk to the associates and if I like the people I am speaking with, their product and their store we are very likely to both come off happy, me with purchasing something and them with selling me something.

I agree with OP. They should have responded with something like "this is our price, maybe you would like to look at something more within your price range" or whatever, not to simply blow you off. Next time make sure, thank them for their time and for making your day a little brighter with their amusing attitude to running a business.

Side note, I expect to be treated just like that at every store at p mall just like the OP was but have not had too many occasions where this was the case. You just have to go there not expecting much and you will be more than pleasantly surprised (most times).

If i understand your situation correctly, you went to the saleslady and ask for the price of the Coach sunglasses. She told you, it is 348. Subsequently, you told her Coach store is selling it for 148.

Dude, you were first inquiring the price, THEN you tell them other store is cheaper. How do you expect them to respond to your comment?

By saying there's a cheaper price elsewhere you have already begun the processing of haggling, even though you might not have the intention to start one. As another poster had pointed out, what do you expect her response to be?

I am not surprise by her attitude one bit. Since when do the stores in P-mall provide any customer service? It's how they do business. If you don't like it go to another store.

Also, when speaking Cantonese, EVERYTHING could potentially sound rude.

That's what I was wondering. If you want customer service, don't go to Pacific Mall. If you want a decent deal (not as many/much as years ago) go to Pacific Mall.

which goodeyes is it? Near the entrance or near the escalator.

there's a girl whom I'm in loved with @ the store near the front entrance... :o there's a hot one too who works @ the other store.

Customer service is poorly exhibited @ Pac Mall really. They're out there for your money. I've gotten good service from other stores though(Noble eyes near the back entrance)

All you people have good points, and I agree that pmall and customer service arent a good combination. I did however did get superb service at a new place called Smart Choice Optical, where the book store used to be in the main level.

It doesnt matter if I didnt intend to buy. I walked into the store, browsed around, saw something that caught my eyes, and asked someone about it. Do people buy cars everytime they walk into a dealership? No.

For the rest of you that believe just because I compared the price and I should be told to go elsewhere in a rude manner, then good luck in life.

Cantonese can be said in a nice and polite tone, choice of words can also help.

I think its near the elevator, its definitely not the entrance one. there were no hot ones in the one I went to. maybe the one u were speaking of wasnt at work that day, haha

Man wth is wrong with ppl hating on OP. he was just telling them about the price difference, plus u kno eye glasses are ONLY marked up like 1000% (probably more), he doesnt deserve to get treated the way he did. DO you all work at Pmall or sumthing like u are used to bad service or get treated like ****? Its not like he walked in for a PM. yea obvuiosly pmall don't care about customer service but that was a little beyond BAD customer experince (or your avg customer service at pmall).

Actually, I can also contribute to this thread about Goodeyes (by no means sabotaging their business, this is by experience).

When I was looking for a pair of sunglasses about 3-4 weeks ago, I wanted this model that they had on display and I was about to make a deposit for a hold. For some reason I didn't make the deposit and waited for a week to pass. Finally decided to get that same model, they said it's already been sold. The person whom I spoke with over the phone wasn't courteous at all and even told me if I wanted to order that frame again it would take a month (when in reality it's only 3 business days or less).

oh well, it's the reason why I went with Noble eyes instead.

PS
I'll go back for that chic when I have time. I can't get over her.

As a fellow RFDer, OP was probably trying to price match it but got shot down. I don't blame OP for trying. Thanks for carrying the RFD spirit! =) I'm proud of you.

actually no, I wasnt even trying. Thanks for pointing it out though.
My girlfriend knows a friend at Coach and got 50% off of 148, so thats $74 plus tax.

then what was the point?

you go into a store with no intention to buy, you ask for the price of something you have no intention to buy, then you tell the store its cheaper at store XXYY.

why did you bother to go in or what was the point of telling them about price at another retailer when you never intended to buy:confused:

too much time?

First off, I did not know the price until i asked her about it. So I didnt go in and start challenging her about the price. I only told her about the coach store after she told me it was $348. THEN I asked her why it was so much. How do u know I wasnt intending on buying it?
Maybe you have too much money to buy everything u see the first time around, but I sure dont.
Good on you buddy.

You could have just walked off already once she told you its $348 since you won't even buy it at $14x as your gf will get it for $7x anyways. You are telling us you have intention to buy at $3xx? This thread failed and you just want to show off that you can get them for cheap.

Just to let you know, all those plastic frames probably cost less than 10 bucks to manufacture in China and most of us just get them for free from insurance anyways. Btw, Coach is really a low class brand.

yes, thats what I wanted to do. Oh no, now my true intention is discovered.

I swear, all of you (except the few who thinks on the same page as I do) are either all working at pmall, or believes customers should be treated like crap.
I wish you all happy shopping experiences in the future.

OP you are ridiculous. After you found out the price, why did you tell them the price you found at the Coach store when the difference is SO HUGE. Anyone with any decent math skills would realize that haggling to even match that price would be impossible!

You have to be fair in this situation. Given the huge price discrepancy, and you asking her why its so expensive, what should she say back, given that the customer in front of her is challenging her prices. For all we know, you were totally rude and she just responded to it.

And then for more icing, you have access to a discount to make it even cheaper at the Coach store!!! You should be happy that your gf got it so cheap and that maybe be glad that you didnt buy it at PMALL and get ripped off so much. Geeze.

lol...to the OP, don't u know that pmall has a so called "50%" off sale every single freaking weekend...they advertise as if it's only for that particular weekend in the summer but if u go back a few weekends later u'll see the same sign in the same spot...so lets say 348 was it? so 50% off is like 174 and then u can haggle from there to match the coach store price...lol...they try to make u think that ur getting a deal...
