My wife and I are considering a New England cruise for our honeymoon. We are new to cruises, and aren't really too sure how the dining part of the cruise works. If we were to cruise with one of the "big" names (Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian), can we choose to eat alone (the two of us) or are all meals "communal"? If private dining is available, is there an up-charge?

You don't need to share table with others especially when you are in honeymoon ... unless you mean you want a private room.

i went to a carnival cruise a few years ago. first cruise experience and didn't really like eating with other people. for dinner we got paired with another couple for the whole trip and it was the same time every night for dinner and a dress code. For our recent Norweigen cruise last year, we tried the freestyle cruise. It was great. You can sit alone like any other restaurant. For the main restaurants, you will need to make a reservation, while the main dining hall, you can just drop in. not really a dress code, but no beach type clothes is permitted in the main dining hall, but i was able to wear shorts to one of the restaurants. hope this helps.

i've been on princess....
when you make your reservation for the cruise, for dinner meals, don't choose any of two set meal times...just choose flexible...
then u can eat anytime you want and just yourselves
