I shipped out a pair of shoes to the US via Xpresspost on the 29th of June, and when I check out the tracking, it says "International item released from Customs to Foreign Postal Administration " since 30th of June.

What's going on?

customs, which controls everything entering the country, has received and allowed your item to enter the country, it is now in the hands of the country's post office.

how is this not perfectly obvious?

I know that the package has gone through customs. I wanted to know why it went through the Foreign Postal Administration, I never got this notice (I have shipped stuff out to the US before).

you expect it to go through domestic (canadapost) postage administration?

Because that country's postal service will then deliver the package. For the US that would be USPS.

There are postal agreements with every country to deal with mail and packages.

I have a packaged shipped from US via USPS Priority Mail International Parcels. How is possible that a package from NY is taking over 2 weeks when a package from UK which I received just 3 weeks prior took only 7 work days both with COD ?

According to online tracking the package has released from "Customs for processing by Canada Post" on the 9-Jul. There had been serveral scans since the 9-Jul all saying "Item processes at Postal facility" in Mississauga. The last scan was taken 11-Jul and the expected delivery was 14-Jul with COD. It is now the 18-Jul and I still have not received notification to pick up and I have contacted Canada Post and visited the local post office to enquire the where about of the package but was told that there is nothing they can do for me. I had contacted the shipper to initiate a trace with USPS, however there is no gaurantee that the shipper will open a trace with USPS.

Is there anything else I can do to get Canada Post to locate my package ? I am thinking of openning a complaint ticket with Canada Post even though they may close it right away I can use the complaint ticket number to bring the case to Ombudsman. Also I wonder if a bounty for my package is a good idea ? If so where can I post the bounty ? Any suggestion is appreciated.

Probably held up in customs.

Probably held up in customs.

May be. But the scan clearly showed that the package cleared custom on the 9-Jul. The scans since the 9-Jul all saying"Item processes at Postal facility" in Mississauga. Last scan was 11-Jul and nothing after that.

Call USPS and check with them.

They're responsible for it now.

Try using the tracking number Canada post gave you and type it into the United States Parcel service website.

Although it originated in Canada with Canada Post many times they usually transfer over the same tracking number allowing it to be tracked once it's in the US or vice versa using that country's postal service website.

This has been the case for me with all my orders I have made from China, Europe, and the US. I have been able to track it with their shipping service website and than been able to track it using Canada Post once it had arrived in Canada.

Call USPS and check with them.

They're responsible for it now.

That's my next step. But before I call I need to confirm if the shipper had initiated a trace with USPS.

Done that. The information on the USPS tracking only showed that the package was out of custom, nothing more. Canada Post tracking showed that the package is in their Mississauga facility since the 10-Jul. Last scan was on 11-Jul with no change in status.

This thread has really got confused as tsto is not the OP with the original question.

Assuming the OP is now happy that his package has been delivered in the U.S., the only remaining question is why hasn't Canada Post delivered tsto's package from the U.S. especially as it was Priority Mail International.

This one has nothing to do with USPS now as they have done their bit.

The easiest explanation is that the shipper screwed up with some detail on the address, especially if they didn't print a label based on what you gave them, but hand wrote it instead.

As there is money to collect, the delivery person who is likely a contractor in an unmarked white panel van, has not bothered to leave you an attempted delivery notice yet, and will keep trying to find you at home.
During his working hours of course.

I would confirm that the shipper has your correct address, and if so, then get Canada Post to tell you exactly who is delivering packages in your part of town.

I can confirm that the USPS has the correct shipping address. I actually received the email notification from USPS with my address printed. My understanding is when there is COD, they usually will deliver to the closest post office which is only 200m from my home. I have checked with the local post office on Friday and they had not received my package. In addition, the last shipment I received from the same shipper a couple months ago, the Canada Post on line tracking showed scan that the package was out on delivery. This time though the only scan showed only the item was being process at the postal facility. The problem was Canada Post refused to trace the package since the package originated from US.

Canada Post scanning items "out for delivery" does not seem to be dependable, but it sounds as though your package has got temporarily "lost" somewhere between Mississauga and your delivery walk.

Don't be surprised if it shows up tomorrow, or in another 2 weeks.

Either way, for a Priority shipment, Canada Post should be more helpful, because both you and they know that USPS did the handover 10 days ago.

I certainly hope this is the case. But it is a bit too convenient that when a package of high value passing through their system it becomes "temporarily lost". Being stonewalled by Canada Post does not exactly boost my confidence about their ability to locate and delivery my package.
