Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new battery for my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. I noticed that DX and FP sell laptop batteries, which I assume are the typical made-in-china 3rd party batteries. Has anyone purchased a battery from them?

I agree with your assumption. I personally feel safer buying a battery from the manufacturer. Who knows, the batteries on DX/FP may be legit and that the supplier is the same one that Dell uses, but you can never be sure.

No, in part because they're not much cheaper than domestic sources like Intelligent Batteries. Also IB gives a one-year warranty.

Another reason is that a lot of what DX and FP sell are cheap counterfeits of the real thing. For instance I bought a replacement battery from FP for my Motorola cellphone. The battery looks identical to the real thing. It even has a genuine-looking Motorola hologram. Yet the FP battery lasts less than half as long between recharges. But then again it only cost $3.

I bought a laptop battery for my VAIO a few weeks ago. It works fine and lasts pretty much as long as my OEM one. The first one they sent me didn't work too well though. I would use it for about 20-30% from full charge and it would suddenly shut off. I exchanged that and the one I have now is working fine. I would say it's a pretty good deal considering it costed less than half of what the OEM one would've cost.
