Dell accidentally sells 140,000 monitors for $15 a pop
And Taiwan demands they stay sold

It's not exactly all that uncommon for Dell to misprice an item on its website and, if you're lucky, it might even honor it. But it looks like the stakes have just been raised considerably in Taiwan, where the company recently listed a 19-inch monitor for NT$500 (or about $15US) and promptly received more than 26,000 orders for close to 140,000 of the monitors. Now, ordinarily, Dell would simply send out a polite email explaining their mistake and call it a day, but Taiwanese regulators have now stepped in and ordered Dell to honor the misprice after receiving a couple of hundred complaints. For its part, Dell simply says that it plans to "compensate the buyers for the mistake," although it's not clear if that means it'll actually be sending out the monitors -- which, incidentally, would add up to more than $20 million at their full list price.

Because no one in the RFD community is a precog, else there would've been a group buy arranged with (presuming there is one) a contact in Taiwan.

Source (http://ca.tech.yahoo.com/computers/desktops/digital_trends/article/3697). Correct me if I am wrong but if they made the same mistake in Canada they are allowed to simply cancel all orders with the incorrect price? If so then we need something similar to Taiwan's Consumer Protection Commission.

please re-read it.

Dell sold it at that price... Taiwan wants them to keep their promise, so Dell is trying to find a compensation.

D'oh. An online pricing goof at night on June 25 has cost Dell a lot of money. On its site for Taiwan, the company mistakenly put the price of a 19" LCD monitor as NT$500 ($15 US).

Not surprisingly, word spread like wildfire, and in the eight hours before a correction was made, some 26,000 customers purchased 140,000 of the monitors. The correct price was NT$4,800 ($148), and Taiwan's Consumer Protection Commission received almost 500 complaints when Dell rectified its error.

The agency had told Dell it must honor the mistaken pricing for customers who ordered one monitor and offer discounts where they've ordered extra monitors, according to The Register. If the company doesn't comply it will be considered in violation of Taiwan's free trade laws.

I wish we have the same kind of protection in Canada
