Has anyone gone to AI resorts on their own before? I've been looking and some places have pretty reasonable prices for single vs. double occupancy. Sometimes its more or less basically double though.

Does anyone have any experience on good places that are reasonably priced for a solo traveler?

Also being alone I'd be looking to meet people, but I'd also like high end. It's been my experience that the 'fun' places are cheap, catering to young folks, but the 'nice' places are more expensive and catered more to couples.

The only country I've found that is solo-traveller friendly (i.e. doesn't add single supplements to your cost) is Cuba. Unfortunately for me, I have no interest in visiting Cuba, so I avoid AI.

Going on your own to an AI beach resort would be boring as you'd be surrounded by families and couples. You could meet a group of people who are friends, but you wouldn't know this until approaching them.

Cruises are more single-friendly and you can do most of the activities on a ship and its excursions on your own. You could also pretend that you're a travel writer reviewing that particular ship and service you're on.

If you want to sit on a beach and drink all day for a week, it might be better to rent a bungalow or such on your own. Buy your own food and booze while there and the cost should be less than an AI.

Agree with what Mulder and Scully wrote.

I've done both AI and cruises as a solo traveller, and much prefer a cruise.
