there're quite a few new house project over there - mattamy home's summerside, monarch's upper danforth village, etc

is it a good area for family? any potential for house value going up?

I was very skeptical about this area when Mattamy was selling Phase 1. My in-laws bought into it and I must say the area has changed drastically from the old Warden Woods Mall/Dump days. Nobody knows for certain what the area will be in the long run but for now, it seems like a safe and quiet neighbourhood for young families.

Drive around at night, see if you like the co-op housing surrounding the development within the 10km radius, better yet walk it :)

There was a stabbing reported in the news just last night, i forgot what other "normal" incident happened on a regular basis. Also the new apartments , when new across from the public parking there were a few police raids on brothels and illegal immigrants...lol HEY it's Scarborough

This area has always been ghetto and still is.

As PMC mentioned, there's alot of co-op buildings surrounding that area.

The homes there are very cheap for a reason even though its very close access to a subway.

While I agree the area is not good now, I disagree that it's always been "ghetto". I went to high school there back in the 70's and I knew a lot of people who lived in that area (pre Warden Woods days.......it was Hilltop Stables, a horseback riding place). Back in those days, Scarborough was a very nice place to live and it was safe and not at all like it is today. I grew up in Scarborough and I can tell you for a fact that the Scarborough of today is nothing like the Scarborough of yesterday. Personally, I would NOT buy a house in that area. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't live there if they were giving the places away.

Relatively speaking(when compared to the rest of Toronto) it's fine to me, I personally wouldn't have any hesitations living there. People do rush to judgment when the topic is Scarborough, so I say to you, walk around the area yourself whether it be at night, day, morning, whenever, and try to get a feel for your comfort level in the area. Hopefully this helps http://www.spotcrime.com/toronto
