This is at Canada Computers.
I am a student. I bought a pack of memory from Canada Computers earlier in the month (June 19, 2009). Three (3) days after I bought it, they drop the price from $74.99 w/$10 Mail-In-Rebate to $71.99 w/ $20 Mail-In-Rebate. I went to the location I bought it from, and ask that they give me the difference back. They said "Why didn't you come on June 22 when you noticed the price drop?" Well, I had to study for FINAL EXAMS and work part time. So then I went to them today (June 29, 2009), they wouldn't pay the price difference. I also asked for a full refund, but was also rejected (There was nothing mentioning the refund policy on the receipt).
As I was also planning the purchase a few other upgrades such as:
Hitatchi 320 GB Hard Drive
Kingmax 8GB MicroSD Card
Because the Manager was being cheap over $3, he lost over $100 of my business and probably more down the road. So just my $0.02......
Warning to All RFDers! When you notice a price drop at Canada Computers, you got to go right away.

I was suppose to go buy more upgrades for my laptop. Then, when I went to there website to check the prices, I see the price drop.
"I was busy."
That's right. Busy WORKING to pay off those bills for Canada Computers on that pack of memory. I only get $9/ hour as student (16 yrs old). Takes me about 8.5 hours of work just to pay it off (so ~ 2 days). You got to understand that this is a lot for me as a student. Think of it in "my shoes", wouldn't you go and tell them to pay the difference? It's only a week (only 2-3 days after my purchase date) and they lowered the prices by that much (also introducing a new MIR $20 worth??)? So it's not over $3, its a much bigger savings. Myself as a consumer purchase things that are of high quality, but at reasonable (cheap) price.
In addition, consumers should be price protected. Price protected as in "If the prices go down within in certain amount of time, consumers get money BACK."
That's why I am posting in RFD; to warn everyone about it.

computer items fluctuate in price frequently. most computer companies do not offer price protection so why would canada computers. they don't officially offer price protection but there is no way that they would do it 10 days after your purchase.
you should read the policies before buying

I am honestly amazed that time after time people come here complaining these tiny, low-margin computer shops don't offer all the benefits of shopping at Costco or another big-box store. Have none of you ever been to a small computer store before? How exactly do you think they keep their prices so low in face of all the competition from the other stores and the internet?

In addition, I bought the RAM on June 19. By June 22, they changed their promotion. I was going to get the rebate form for the June 19 promo, but it wasnt available. CC had agreed on the phone that they would issue a new receipt so I can claim the rebate. BUT when I went to get the new receipt, CC's CSR was giving me attitude from beginning to end; as if he didn't want to issue the new receipt. Then I asked for a full refund (unopenned package), and he said no. If I were to refund it, he said it would be at the current price, not at the price i purchased it at. Thus, losing $3 on my part.

Exams are done...no school... no homework....so I got the time to post the thread. The reason i post is to let others know how bad customer service can get at CC. Nothing wrong with that....
Small purchases (i.e. RAM) at CC give me such service, imagine what kind of service you would get with a bigger purchase (i.e. laptops), if its doa, you can imagine what kind of service they would give you? (leaving you alone to deal with the manufacturer....) I was purchased many things from TIGERDIRECT with little or no problems. Customer service is much much much much much better than CANADA COMPUTERS
So no more consideration of buying large items at Canada Computers anymore. (see below)
Anything small ($20 and under; BIG SALE) Canada Computers might get my business.
OTHERWISE, $100 and up, Canada Computers is OUT OF THE QUESTION. That business goes to TIGERDIRECT and other retailers.

That's there business to be competitive. First things they need to focus on is EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMPETITIVE PRICES. If you don't focus on one or another, be ready to go out of business in less than 1 year (i.e. Logic Computer House)

I doubt you would get better service at TigerDirect (which you seem to love so much) regarding the same circumstance. In fact you should have a good read at TD's return policy before doing your next purchase. There are many ways for them to refuse a refund/exchange: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/sectors/help/return.asp I would be particularly worry about that 25% restocking fee at the bottom there.
In the end, you opened a topic for discussion, but there's really nothing to discuss. Posts like yours are a dime a dozen. I has been talked about again and again before.

We even completed all 30 credits that was required for secondary school diploma by the end of 1st semester in grade 12 while everyone had one more semester, plus 6 courses in OAC next year! :D

Well. CC's service is not the greatest that's for sure but not bad either. I think there was a thread here before about this. But I suggest OP to let this go and don't worry about the $3. Pretend you don't know the price drop. The thing is that you agreed on that price and you paid it. I'm the price of that memory will drop 10 years later. Are you gonna wait?
I purchased stuffs like mobo, case, PS, memory and HD but found out that the HD price was effective at door crash day only. I asked for refund for everything and I got all my money back even the bag that charged. What should I ask for more?
And don't expect good service and cheap stuffs go together. YOU GOT WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Hope you learn this today.

Whew, I was afraid this thread would die. You can always count on 16-year olds to come back full of righteous indignation.
I pity the poor OP, who can't take any time at 16 to enjoy being a teenager, and instead is trying to be an adult before his time. His midlife crisis is going to hit hard.
Starting a thread telling people that the customer service at CC is bad is like starting a thread telling people The Brick ripped you off and won't take a return. Everyone here already knows it. Nobody goes to CC for the service, they go for the price and availability.
Holding up Tigert Direct as a shining beacon of customer service is even more laughable. I can't wait until you start a thread when they screw you over.
Oh, and random large fonts just scream "I'm a teenage forum troll who's throwing a tantrum." Responding to each subsequent post individually also makes for tiresome reading. But hey, your post count is shooting up, and I'm entertained, so it's not a complete waste of time.

I used to work there. They have something called "we don't offer price protection" which they use all the time. They lower prices every day knowing people return things constantly, losing less money in the returns process because you only get the current price back.
This is my own theory based on my own observations while working there, not guaranteed fact.

I have. Last place to shop.
Tigerdirect, has customer reviews on products (and services) before people make purchases. Canada Computers, on the other hand are more conservative. Not being transparent on customer feedback. They won't dare to put this stuff on their website. As for return policy, I had little to no problems with that as most products I purchased from them either excellent. If I had to return it, it would probably because it was defective or non-function. In that case, that overrides the return policy. Stuff from 3+ years ago from TD are still working at top notch to now.

...and speak to someone: get their name and tell them you are too busy to come down today, could you get the price match another day.
Another option is to buy the new item at the lower price, and return it on the old receipt (unopened so no restocking fee)
...and what's the hostility towards the OP? He's just saying that CC can be pretty rigid w.r.t. their policies: it varies depending on who you deal with (one guy did a restock on an open box item for me, but felt sorry for me I guess and only charged me 10%) and CC is WAY better now than they were 5 or so years ago: they are growing into a real "chain" now, so they have to have better policies than they used to if they are going to get broad customer acceptance (can you imagine if some 40 year old mother of three goes to CC to buy something, it's not the right item and has to return it, THEN gets a 15% restocking fee? She'll never EVER go back, and probably cause a scene, because all the other computer stores like BB & FS etc. have pretty lenient return policies.
