I have a lot of pine trees on the north side of my house and 5" aluminum gutters. I have to clean them out at least 2-3 times a year or else there's a log jam of needles and pine cones in them.
I am in Victoria, wondering what I should purchase and maybe from where?

We put the Leaf Defier (http://www.roofersworld.com/leafdefier.htm) on our gutters a few years ago and have had no problems. We are surrounded by tall, seed-bearing trees.
That being said, our roof line is low enough to reach with an extended wand - good thing because ash keys get matted on the top of the foam and need help being blow off. I bought a few extra lengths of wand for the shop vac and it does the job just fine.
YMMV

The problem with the Mike Holmes (TM) screens, it would seem to me, is that they're designed for leaves, not needles or seeds.
My challenge was that our downspouts are tied into a weeping tile system that is buried underground and travels a fair distance - I wouldn't want any part of that system to get clogged with leaves or other tree debris. IOW, we had zero tolerance. We tried all sorts of filters and screens and none gave us the performance we wanted.
If you've got more tolerance for some needles getting into your gutters and downspouts, I suspect that the Mike Holmes (TM) screens would be fine.
As I said, so far we're happy with the Leaf Defier. It was a custom install and wasn't cheap: a little under $10/ft installed. Pricewise, that does not compare too favourably with the Mike Holmes (TM) screens at a little over $2.5/ft. Of course, Mike doesn't install them... ;)
If you are interested in the Leaf Defier, call Roofer's World and they'll tell you who your local dealers are. We got two quotes from local roofers and frankly didn't negotiate hard.
