I took a computer test that's supposed to demonstrate your understanding of excel/word/powerpoint along with math and english proficiency.

Personally, I have been using word/excel for school over many years and recently (2 years) have introduced myself to powerpoint through editing online lectures.

My question is what kind of an impact does your performance have on their perspective of your understanding of each program? I did very badly as I did not really understand how this test operated until half way through the powerpoint segment.

Well...

the most obvious answer is it'll depend on the recruiter... some put more emphasis on these programs others think they are garbage.

But the big deciding factor is your competition.

If everyone else is flying through these programs then you will in fact look like someone who does not know powerpoint at all.

Don't worry too much. Many companies are looking for a well-rounded person.

Two years ago, five of my friends were competing against each other for the same job. They took a test based on Microsoft Access. One of my friends was very very skillful at Access but lacked communication/people skills. Another friend had intermediate knowledge about Access with decent interpersonal/confident skills and he got hired instead.
