Too broad of a question. Are you sure it's a paid internship to begin with? Most internships are unpaid.
What company?

You should be hitting something in the range of 40k - 50k per year. Engineering internships lasting 12 or 16 months pay very good. Don't settle for one company only, apply everywhere you see an advertised position. Also, call companies and ask if they are interested in hiring internship students. You'd be surprised that the majority of companies have good internships that are internally posted.

Here's data from Waterloo's co-ops: http://www.cecs.uwaterloo.ca/students/salary.php. As you can see, pay increases with experience.

Take the UW numbers with a grain of salt. The upper range represent pay for students that have much more experience than most new grads.

Very hard to get an engineering internship right now (atleast where I am), so I wouldnt be too picky about the pay right now because the experience will be valuable for when you graduate and try to get a job then. I would apply to as many places as you can and put some genuine effort into your resume and cover letter. Wage depends on the company too, oil gas companies pay more usually. For my internship, I will be getting salary at an oil company, which works out to be around $28-29-ish hourly. But I would say around $20 seems to be the average. Around $10 is very low, most likely a research type position.

i am personally more interested in gaining practical experience than being paid.
