What is it about NPOs that attract you?

Working for an NPO shouldn't be that much different than working for any other company, assuming that you're actually employed there as opposed to volunteering your services.

For accountants, I can see where working at an NPO could require a bit of extra "reading" of accounting guidelines... especially with IFRS coming in and preparing for whatever changes to accounting rules there'll be when it comes to NPOs.

Like what Redguard said. There are so many types of NPO in various areas. Are you interested in the environment as in sustainability/ renewable energy/bio remediation.

I'd say study in a field you are interested in, volunteer for NPO's so that you understand their structure and how their business run differently then profit organizations.

My sister just finished her study in Arts Management at University of Toronto. Which is geared towards the management and implementation of businesses in the arts sector. I good portion Culture in Toronto is government related and or Non-profit, so she learned how to submit and write grants to the government, organize fundraiser and look for sponsorships.
