I'm looking for good books on repair or renovation.
Any suggestions?

I've done some repairs before back in the Caribbean but North American homes are quite different. So

I'd prefer books catering to the "newb" with lots of pictures and explanations.

Also books on Ontario code (wiring especially) would be good.

Internet is best source.

HD has lot of books on different subject.

Costco also sells these type of books. Lately I noticed, DIY repairs and projects ...Black and Decker, Jon Eaks, Reader digest.

Getting the books is not really the problem.

I just wanted to know if any particular ones are recommended.
Especially ones that are Canadian code specific.

Have you looked at any? Even the names of books you think I should avoid would be helpful.

I have this one, it is a pretty good comprehensive book. Because it covers so many things, some of the explanations are a bit brief, but it give you a good starting point for doing things.

"From what goes where to how things are put together, this all-inclusive handbook is a comprehensive guide to hundreds of expert techniques to repair, maintain or transform your home.

This complete guide has been thoroughly Canadianized by Jon Eakes, Canada's home-improvement guru. Do It Yourself coves all essential home improvement tools, equipment and materials. Using over 3,500 full-colour photographs and diagrams Do It Yourself combines "know-how" information with "show-how" instruction making it the ultimate visual guide to every aspect of home improvement for Canadians. From the basics of organizing household projects and ensuring that you have the right materials on hand, to the basics of understanding the electrical and plumbing systems of the home, Do It Yourself is the comprehensive guide to hundreds of techniques to help Canadians repair, maintain and transform their homes. There is one at Costco called Do It Yourself by Jon Eaks and some other people. I liked it best. It's Canadian based, so it's for our type of homes, and secondly, I loved how it assumed you had something there already. Most of the repair books I picked up assumed I had a clean slate. How would I have a clean slate if I needed to repair something?

I think it was $25 at Costco. This book helped me redo a kitchen, replace some toilets, a vanity, fix some closets, more importantly, it helped me "ask" the right questions when I hired someone to redo some wiring and redo our main bath. Goodluck!

Cool thanks!

So far I've only browsed through a Black and Decker one which SEEMED pretty good but it's a US book though.

Please keep the suggestions coming!

I bought the Readers Digest one. It's very similar to the B&D one. When looking at it first, I checked to see how it described the
things I already knew and I was satisfied with their explanations.

IIRC, I got it used on Amazon for $12 :) RFD style :)
