View Full Version : The Plan To Take Down Rogers
IBOPM
Jun 25th, 2009, 10:08 AM
I've been paying around $60 for 200 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 9pm, free network calling, and 125 text messages per month.
I thought this was the standard, until I talked to my coworker who advised me to do something about it. So I crafted up a plan.
What do you guys think?
Goals:
1. Get rid of system access fee
2. Evenings starting at 7pm
3. Everything should be $25
Phase I: First Blood
1) Call customer service to negotiate a better plan.
2) Mention that:
* Fido has no system access fee by the second billing
* Evenings start at 7pm
Phase II: Call in the Calvary
1) Ask to be put through to "Customer Retention".
2) Describe the situation as per Phase I.
Phase III: Raise the Stakes
1) Ask how much it will cost to cancel the plan.
2) Because (Telus or Bell) has offered to pay the cancellation fee up to $300
*step 2 here is complete BS, but my coworker said to just say it
Phase IV: Moving Up The Ladder
1) Ask for Name and Employee #.
2) Ask to speak to their supervisor.
3) Repeat Phase I and III statements.
4) Repeat Phase IV until satisfied.
5) If all else fails, proceed to Phase V.
Phase V: The Mother of All Bombs
Begin preparations to launch an EECB:
1) Write a really good complaint letter.
2) Determine corporate email address format.
3) Compile a list of company's top executives using company website or Google Finance or Routers.
4) Combine steps 2 and 3 to create an email list.
5) Send the complaint letter from step 1.
Phase VI: "We're Going Nuclear"
For extreme circumstances:
1) Take out newspaper ads, informing the public about Rogers' bad phone plans.
2) Create a domain against Rogers.
3) Start a Twitter/Yahoo Group/Google Group/Facebook Group specifically about Rogers.
4) Proceed to wreak havoc on Rogers PR.
Phase VII: The Final Cop-out
Switch to Fido or someone else.

Beep! Fail! Fido HAS system access fee.
Phase II: Call in the Calvary
1) Ask to be put through to "Customer Retention".
2) Describe the situation as per Phase I.
Beep! Fail again. Go directly to retention without phase 1. Whatever phase 1 can give you, retention can give you something better. Do bother to talk to regular CSR.
Phase VII: The Final Cop-out
Switch to Fido or someone else.
Have you checked out one of the longest thread in 'Hot deal'? There are much more effective ways to get result than the rest of your 'phases' unless you mean to write something funny. Using your method, you may as well go directly to Phase VII without collecting $200 passing Go. After you really pissed one CSR, the conversation will be written in your file. It will be harder to get a deal from another CSR. By the way, Fido is owned by Rogers.

I wrote this more so for humour. I knew Fido is owned by Rogers, but I was told this works nonetheless. And I have no idea about Fido's policies with their system access fee thing, that was just from my coworker. In fact, all of this was my coworker's, I just typed it up and added humour.

The new fido plans have no system access fees, only the older unlisted plans IIRC.
OP, I like your formatting :)

If you do mean to reduce your monthly fee, check out the thread in Hot Deals.
Just for the hack of it, I paid $25.37 (everything including tax) and have:
250 minutes weekday, unlimited weekend and weeknight starts at 6pm
caller id, voice mail, call waiting.
I don't have network calling or text messaging.

just call retention...you make it sound like war or something.
1. If you are not on contract just threaten to leave
2. Evaluate the prosposal, if you like it...take it, else call again.

definitely go straight to retentions......forget talking to the CSRs.....
Also, scan the BST: Cellphone forum for people giving away Rogers retention plans. I have found some pretty good plans and the seller has probably been with Rogers for a long while in order to accumulate credits etc and also negotiated as well.
G'Luck!

You do know Fido = Rogers right??
So if after doing all the above and your go and switch to Fido
you have done nothing
you will still give money to Rogers, but to a different pocket!

The best way to get a deal is just call to cancel and they'll transfer you to their retention department. Just browse the plans from the competition before you call and get an idea on the costs for a comparable plan. From there you can just negotiate a fair deal. And if you have several services with the same company, that gives you even more leverage to negotiate. What you're paying for now is quite high.

ahhh yea that seems like a lot of work ....
do what I did 2 weeks back
Step 1
611
Step 2
English -> CANCELLATION!
Step 3
Get transfered to a CSR
Ask are you cancellation?
NO - then why the **** am I talking to you and no you can't get my birthday.
(the guy called me man - and I totally lost it and I was on the bus so people were getting scared)
Step 4 hang up while they place you on hold
Step 5 Repeat Step 1-4 but then tell them how dare they hang up on you
Step 6 Retentions - totally go ape **** on them for about 5 mins. (its good if you get a girl because they seem to take it better)
Step 7 Calm down and then say I want to cancel right now (don't mention it before in the anger fit)
Step 8 let the deals start rolling in
Step 9 tell them to hold (and then pretend you are comparing a "Telus Plan"
Step 10 Throw in more things
Step 11 Hold again
Step 12 - get another item
Step 13 Take it.
Repeat in 3 months.
See that's a game plan Adrian.

So lets just say if you do get your plans through, and get the $25 deal, does that mean the csr will lose his/her job since they couldn't confirm it was a lie, and believed you. Just wanna know since my mom works in the cellphone department. i will feel sorry for the csr for this.

how do you end up paying $25 in total?

I'm betting it's a $35 bb value pack ( enhanced v/m , unlimited sms/mms , who called / cid and 500 mb data ) with a $10 credit
I have that plus the 17.50 epp plan and my bill is 62.42 a month , which is fair for me

$17.50 = 200 min, unlimited eve weekend after 6pm.
$25 = 500MB data, unlimited sms/mms, caller ID, enhanced voice mail, who called, unlimited BB Messenger usage
$6.95 SAF
$0.25 911
= $55.91 after taxes
It kind of blows if you ask me, I see people with some LD minutes and unlimited R2R for the same price... :| But I don't mind it too much as most of my friends have BBs so we just all BBM each other.

The rogers/bell monopoly in Canada is horrible and is putting us way behind the rest of the developed world when it comes to technology. I remember when ACI in Aurora (Aurora Cable Internet) introduced its 9meg unlimited cable service. This speed was huge, most of my friends in the states had 5meg at most, usually less.
Now rogers has taken over Aurora, dropped the speed down to 5meg and put a download cap on it, while my friend in Daytona is sitting on a 50meg virgin connection. Wtf is that?
These two assenine companies are ruining communications technology in Canada.
