Hi there,
I'm a gr 11. high school student, and I was wondering if participation in sports teams are preferred by universities.
I can see how universities would prefer people who have lots of extracurricular activities, like student council or prefects or science club.
But what about sports teams?
Is the amount of sports teams you've been on even looked at by universities?
Would it be a good idea to go for at least one or two teams, just so I have something?
Thanks in advance,
-Nick

Wrong forum..
Also, i think they would only look at that if you are at a stalemate with another student.

There's a student form here, you may get more insight by posting there.
But yea...I don't see how it could hurt?

Extracurricular activities dont matter at all as long as you make the grades. Dont bother with sports if its going to impact your grades. Aim for the 90% average to get the big bursary that all universities offer.

If you are a superstar athlete, I think that it can help you get accepted into universities or get scholarships.
Let's say Jane doesn't have an average in 80's or 90's but is a superstar athlete, I think that she could get accepted into one of the top universities.
I guess that it depends on the university- if the university values sports.

Unless you are applying to a university in the USA , where they take sport almost like a gladiator like events, NO it does not matter for CND universities.
The big exception is if you are applying to a program that is highly competitive and they need to see extracurriculars. That is it.
Maybe even graduates schools but NOT for regular stuff like most university programs.

It all depends on the program as mentioned above. If you want to take part in extra-curricular activities, it doesn't have to be sports but can be different clubs and activities. If you want 1 sport activity is enough. Along with other clubs and activities... it should be sufficient for most universities and programs.
