But are they letting anyone through? My dad tried yesterday at the Scarborough Transfer Station (Markham Rd & Sheppard Ave. E.) but they refused to let anyone through.

And this morning when i drove by it, they were blocking everone then as well.

Why not send your garbage to the union. I'm sure they would be pleased to take it! It's their JOB for crying out loud

Tomorrow is 29 degrees, feels like 34...

Toronto is going to be one big stinky hell hole...more so than usual? I would hate to have to walk down Spadina tomorrow. Those Chinese vendors throw out a lot of garbage daily from all the produce they sell.

Don't they already have private contracts? What was it like during the last garbage strike?

The star article said the picketers are allowing people through today at the eglinton/vic park one but not another one. I'd wait a little while before it gets organized and you know when exactly you can go.

>:(

thanks, looks like waiting is the best option.

Edit: They are letting people go in, every 15 mins one car gets to go through. This is at the Scarborough Transfer Station (Markham Rd & Sheppard Ave. E.)

Also, that location is only open till 7pm so they are telling everyone that if your turn doesn't come by 7pm, they will just let everyone through.

people should put it in boxes and mail it to them.
spend a few bucks to send them a message.............

edit: ofcourse, it would be more effective to send it to the address of the locals on strike...........
where do you find the address of the locals on strike?

I take garbage to the transfer stations regularly because I do renovations. I usually go to the one at Markham and sheppard. Normally you have to line up and drive over the scale then drive inside and dump the garbage. I don't know if they are going to streamline it for the strike but it seems that even if they do, it won't be easy to get on the site with the goons at the gates. On a regular day, there is usually a line and about a 15 min wait so I can imagine it would be a huge line during the strike. The other thing is that they have really goofy hours. Look up the hours here

http://www.toronto.ca/garbage/pdf/solidwastedrop-offdepots.pdf

For example, they are closed to residents during the day until 4pm, and then they close from 7pm to 8pm?! Honestly I would just go and buy some heavy duty garbage bags and hold out till it is over. My neighbour is in the union and she said that it was timed so that the city would not want the city to be a mess for Canada day or some other event, I don't remember which, so it will be over soon

I am sure the volume @ transfer stations will be alot again today.

heynow999 has a good link. You can visit one that is nearest to you.

I think they will skip the scales for this 1... no one is working to collect the toll anyways lol.

In regards to it being timed well... it is well timed. Next week is Canada Day and Toronto is also hosting a few festivals... I think this strike will be over soon.

NO. ALL City Festivals, Events, Parades, etc are CANCELLED. IF the fest is private, and they can PROVE (with a contract) that they have a garbage contract w/ Waste Management or other, then, and only then, will it be allowed to go forward. I know this, because I'm working at York Civic Centre and have spoken to Management for the City.

I went to the one just off Chesswood at 6pm. I was the only car their. Guys said to wait 15min, 1 min later they let me in and I dumpped 4 bags. The whole time they kept saying "we're not bad guys".

The whole process was less than 5 minutes. Hell if it was always this easy I say lower my property tax and I'll drop it off every week.

LOL!

Some dude in a big pickup just unloaded his roofing shingles all over the dump site. He had one of those hydraulic pumps with a switch inside... and his plates were rusted out.

I went to the Ingram site yesterday night, they didn't make you wait arbitrarily but it was only one car at a time (what happens to ppl who walk it in?). It was about a 10 minute wait, all 10-15 cars idling.

When I asked the guy if he was having a good day he replied: "JUST trash, nothing else. Household trash!" Wow buddy, **** you.

The throwers at least had the decency to say thanks, which was puzzling given the intent of the entire strike and picket setup.

My wife just returned from the temp site at Beechgrove Drive (east Scarborough).

She did not have any problems throwing out her garbage. There were picketters there but they were not in the way and did not slow people down.

Are there any sites where I can back my car right up to the garbage pile and throw it from there without having to walk and carry it?
