Okay so there is a possibility that I'm going to spend about 6 weeks away from home starting in July. Theoretically, if it all works properly, I'd go on leave from my job here in Ottawa for 6 weeks, and pick up a temporary job in Sudbury.

Thing is, I'd like to try and get as close / equal to my current salary, which means looking for as high as $16/hour.

What kind of temporary work pays that well? I could get a job pretty easily at McDonald's, having worked there before, but there's no way I'm going to be earning $16/hour there :P

Any recommendations? I'm qualified to be a manager at retail place somewhere but I can't imagine someone wanting to hire a manager for only 6 weeks.

Does your current employer maybe have a branch there, where they could give you a temporary transfer?

Otherwise, you could always see about taking on some jobs with an agency.

I'm not sure what your employment background and experience is like - not sure if you've done mainly retail management or other things as well.

I agree with the above poster about possibly temp. work, although depending on your experience not sure if you will get $16/hour. As well, the economy isn't great right now for many sectors and picking up a 6 week job might not be easy - not sure how the market is in Sudbury as that will also be a factor.

It's the summer and others may have already been applying for summer jobs as well which could impact you. Temp agencies might be one of your best options, especially those that have branches here that you can do testing at and then hopefully have the Sudbury office know your availability dates and be able to place you during the time you're there. Also it's the summer and if construction is something you'd be willing to do, there might be some opportunity there for short term work as well.
