Wow! $139 for the X3 720BE. That is definitely a hot price! I would for sure get another one if I have the budget to do another build!

Still, for $20 more the x4 810 seems like a better performer. Hmm, very tempting might just go with that. Which motherboard and ram go best paired up with this?

i dunno the 710 seems like the best deal to me at $120

120 for 3 cores or 160 for 4 cores, price per core is the same, its just a question of if you think you need that 4th core very often.

ok i was thinking about it today, and finally decided to grab the 710 for $119, and when i got on to order it there was now a $5 IR, so price is down to 114 free shipping...very HOT!

Yes this is quite a nice price!
X2 550 is $123 (regular price), also a nice option.

There's a few nicely priced AMD CPUs at the moment.

I am so tempted. Get it with a 790GX motherboard, and possibly unlock the 4th core and get a quad core 45nm processor for $114...

Looks like a good upgrade option, thanks OP. So, as I understand it, this works with an AM2 mobo, just don't get the full advantage of DDR3? I don't want to have to upgrade mobo/ram right now, but will I still see an improvement from an AMD X2 5000+?

oh yeah definately, its probably a good 30%+ faster per core + extra core and substantial cache.

good upgrade
