uhm ... are you joking?
North Koreans aren't allowed to leave. so ofcourse no1 has ever met one. You would have to go to N. Korea in order to meet one. The ones who do escape are probably scared to admit where they're from anyway.
Also I saw on tv that North Korean's have their own internet, blocked off from anything that's not from North Korea. So no1 from North Korea will ever read this either.

Yes, however, I don't think you can quite compare the Government of Cuba to the Government of North Korea....

A old co-worker of mine is North Korean, she was born there but came to Canada when she was a child. Never asked her how, since it could be a sensitive topic, so I've only assumed either had powerful family members or was smuggled.

She is the daughter of Kim Jong Il's fifth mistress.

I used to work with a nice person who was originally form North Korea.
Lots of North Koreans flee to China and South Korea. The one I know fled to China and can speak fluent Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and English is pretty good!

Nope, but my girlfriend met them before (when she went to NK) and in SK. The South Korean government takes in all North Koreans who run to South Korea, settles then down, gives them a place to live, and provides living expenses.

HAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA.... Thanks for the sarcasm, I needed a good laugh. People flee from North Korea everyday. Oh and I'm sure you could meet a North Korean if you went to one of their overseas embassy. There are embassies in France, Brazil, Cuba, China, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Iceland, Mexico...
To answer the question, Yes I have met several and dated one. Of course I met several because I dated one. :)

North Korea has military watchposts all along the DMZ with South Korea, and they're ordered to shoot anyone who is attempting to illegally flee the country. Same deal with the watchposts on North Korea's border with China afaik.

I had a friend whose father was originally a fighter pilot in North Korea. He escaped to Canada while on a trip with the military to China somehow. He had quite a lot of issues with adapting to Canadian society. Last I heard he was arrested for abusing that friends little brother (his youngest son) physically.

My co-worker has met someone from North Korea. He said that they had to flee on a shipping boat or something and couldn't make any noise. I wasn't really paying attention =/. I hear if Chinese authorities find illegal North Koreans fleeing in China, they send them back to North Korea but other parts of Asia send them to South Korea. Pretty sad how messed up North Korea is though, I really hope they go through their own revolution some time.
Anyway, here's an interesting journey blog about North Korea I stumbled upon a long time ago. Thought it had some really neat photos

I doubt we will see an Iran scale revolution there. Many people have faith in their government and choose to follow Kim Jong Ill.
I'm sure i will see some sort of uprising in my lifetime, maybe after the passing of power.
I've seen that blog and a few others, which makes me even more interested. At some point i'd like to visit NK.

Yes, a few months ago. It was pretty random actually. One day, my folks came home with a N. Korean + daughter. Apparently the two had escaped from N. Korea to China and lived in a low-profile area before being 'rescued' by a non-profit organization aimed towards helping these types of individuals.
Long story short, they brought food and it was damn good!

Yeah, unless the person defected from NK (a life risk; thus does not happen often), it's unlikely that you'd ever see one. Especially not here in Canada. It's one of the most facepalm inducing questions I get being of Korean descent... "Are you from the North or the South?" (although I do realize that most ppl here would not be aware of North Korean policy of not being allowed out of the country... it's just a bit silly from my perspective)
There is a chance that you may find some in the northern boarder of China, though. Also, there are many Koreans living without any nationality in Japan, who have close ties and identifies strongly with North Korea (called Chongryun in Japan). They are people who refused S.Korean citizenship after WWII, but since they cannot apply for N.Korean citizenship (because Japan does not recognize N.Korean nationality, I believe), they're under the citizenship of the pre-colonization Korean government, Joseon (and since that nation no longer exists, they're more or less "without" a nationality). So I suppose you could call them de-facto North Koreans.

There are a few living in Kingston. When I asked if they had any relatives, they said none really since they they all live in North Korea. I can't put my finger on it but I find them very difficult to communicate with. They have a harder time living in Canada than other immigrant groups and their children turn out very cold and eerie although very smart.

Damn, that's really anal, I'm surprise there hasn't been a rebellion in North Korea already..
The people of North Korea are pretty much systematically brainwashed from birth, being taught that North Korea is the greatest nation in the world and that the Dear Leader is basically an equivalent of god. Combine that with the seclusive nature of the country, it's more or less unlikely that there would ever be a large scale rebellion/uprising from the general public. If there is ever a rebellion, it would be from the higher-rank government officials who know more about the outside world and the true nature of the government.

I think generally they are smaller so if you like small girls sure...but S Korean girls are better looking and taller generally due to better health, diet and plastic surgery.:cheesygri
Kim jong il would not be importing swedish girls or S Korean actresses otherwise along with his Nova Scotian lobster...which he loves!

There are some daytrips to Gaesong, North Korea from Seoul, South Korea. I just signed up when I was in Seoul. They might have stopped it due to the volatile situation there.

My friend got cosmetic surgery in South Korea.
Apparantly the top 2 surgeries there are a) double eye lid surgery (because if you look at Korean's eyes, they usually have small eyes and only single eye lids) b) nose surgery
I'm guessing breast implants are #3 ... or maybe lipo
Hey, anyone watch that movie where that girl gets all those surgeries, and then she finds out the guy she loves...well, I wont' spoil it, but my gf and all my korean friends say its a good movie!
