OK...
What is with that dude in the bathroom who hands out paper towels to people? It always seems to be some black guy wearing a leather hat who appears to have a selection of colognes and other "men's products".
Are you expected to tip him or what? What's with all of this stuff he's selling? Does he expect people to buy bottles of cologne when they're in a club or something?

Just give a tip and leave...no need to overanalyze things....leave a toonie and enjoy the club.

Lol Jucius, don't tell me you just got back from a club (without scoring) and the first thing you did was hop on RFD to talk about the black guy in the washroom with the funny hat! Say it ain't so!

I hate those guys with a passion. They always impose their "service" on you, buy holding the only bottle of soap and all the towels in their hands. There more of an annoyance than a help, and make you feel like you need to pay to go to the bathroom.
To answer your question, yes, you are supposed to tip them, but nobody is going to force you. If you use the cologne, or take some of the mints they have, then you should definitely toss them some money, but otherwise it's somewhat optional.

I like those washroom guys. I leave the stall open and the comes in and wipes my bottom for me. Sometimes he pats my butt (Don't know why, maybe its part of the customer service), But then when I zip up my pant and go wash my hands the guy always disappears. .........oh wait.

Some of these guys are real showmen and go to the extreme to make visiting the bathroom fun (and earn their tip). "Hey guys! Welcome to my bathroom, enjoy your ****! Always remember to shake it twice!"
Other guys just stand around and look creepy.
If the guy makes me laugh I leave a small tip, he earned it. If he just gets in my way and doesn't let me get my own paper towel, no tip for him.

its nice that they have them, but im not rich, so i dont need javiar to pour soap on my hands thank you, i can do it myself, and i can reach for the paper towel dispencer on my own too thank you. a bathroom attendand iwho turns on the taps or hands you the towels which you can do yourself is unnecessary, but if you need cologne, which you should wear before you go out to the club, then fine, put on some cologne and tip the guy a loonie or toonie, but people barely make ends meet who go to these clubs, and they are getting luxury servies and whats sad is theyre getting so used to them theyre expecting them.

Depends on if they are employed by the club at all, or if they just don't kick them out.

I know the cheapskate inside you wants to complain and not tip on RFD.
They're there to keep the bathroom clean...common sense will tell you 500 drunks are going to wreak havoc in the washroom...they get paid min wage + tips.

I disagree that this is the case. I don't see them scrubbing the piss off the floor and walls from where people miss. Quickly grabbing the paper towel for me before I have a chance to grab it from the dispenser myself doesn't help keep things clean at all.
If they were an optional service, and didn't try to impose on everyone who comes in, then I'd have no problem with it.

If you're too poor to spare some change, you shouldn't be buying $7 drinks plus cover charge at a nightclub.

Correction: I'm best friends with the DJ. I never paid cover charge. . Who says drinks are $7? we get $300 bottle service a night, Plus I never have to paid for it, cus of my high profile status, I always get free drinks compliments of the DJs, promoters, the bar staf and the owners.

I've always wondered where they find these guys.
And also noticed that in some places, they actually removed the sink knob to turn the water on thus forcing you to use the one closest to the washroom guy.

Unless this is a recent event, I stopped clubbing frequently like 2 years ago. I used to go there fairly frequently and never saw one. The only place in Ottawa I may have seen one (But I don't even remember) is Foundation, but I only went there twice.

O'Connors in Kanata had one when I went there a few months ago. I don't know why guys would do this anyways. First off, you're breaking man laws by talking to someone while at a urinal.
Also, handing me a paper towel that I could grab myself is not worth a tip. I say get some women into those bathrooms, and tip them if they shake it for you!

Well hopefully one day your high profile status will eventually lead you to a paying job so you can afford to toss out a buck or two to those less fortunate than you. Your high roller friends must really love you mooching off of them all the time.

At Republik, one of the sinks is out of service, so it makes you go over near to the washroom attendant.

When I was going clubbing, it was 3-4 times weekly. That was like 2 years ago in college though. Clubs/bars: Minglewoods, onTap, The Cabin, Foundation, MTL, The Drink, Lotus Lounge, Mercury Lounge, Helsinki, Heaven, Honest Lawyer, Element, Bulldog (the old one on Elgin), and a few others. As I said, I've never really seen anyone in Ottawa. I've been to Tila a few times too.
So how about you don't criticize me when you have no clue who I am even am?
