Hey all, brand new here and looking for some help?
I have been with fido since October 2007 and have had no issue with them until this week. I was going to buy an iphone a few months back from them using my fido dollars. I was told that once I was 15 months into my contract I would be able to upgrade to a 3G. The next months from 16-20 depending would add a fee to the price of the phone to help with the subsidy. I decided to wait until the 19/20th month where I am now to avoid the subsidy. Now I called back fido service to find out that they have changed their contract so that you under no circumstances can upgrade your handset unless you are 6 months or less from the end of a 3 year contract. This is totally bogus and basically means you can no longer upgrade your phone. They said I was notified via a bulletin but I never heard about this or I would have gotten the phone a while ago.

I have been reading up on a bunch of websites about canceling the contract without an ECF, or something I read here, about switching to Rogers and having that fee waived. Can anyone elaborate on this or point me in the right direction? Ever search I find points me in the direction of some forum thread that is years old and most likely has an out of date contract supporting it.

Please help. FIDO SUCKS!

As of a few months ago now, there is no more waived ecf for fido->rogers porting.

You will be charged min $100 penalty.

You might get lucky...but the problem is you can only approach Fido AFTER the line has ported to Rogers, and you got your final bill. You can try to have a supervisor memo your account with Fido pre-emptively...but it's all ymmv.

*Here's the thing* AFAIK, it's a little cloudy. They definately do it like this for rogers->Fido...but the reverse is a ymmv.

Criteria to have been eligible (when this was allowed) is a- 12+months tenure with either provider, b- renewing on an equivalent contract term with the other provider.

Ok, well if I do call fido up again and try to do this, what kind of information should I be citing? I cant just say "I read such and such online".
Also, does anyone else know of any loopholes that I can go through to kick fido out on its ass? Bad dog doesnt deserve a biscuit.

I am really fed up with their complete lack of service and them changing their policies every few months making them even less palpable. I just need an out!

if your fido line is +12months old A
if not B

A-1.port to Rogers
2.renew on MANDATORY 2 or 3 yr contract
3.receive final fido bill
4.call in and give proof of your Rogers account activation, will receive discount on your ECF such that your final ECF is no more than $100.

B-you will be liable for your FULL ecf, no exceptions.

*as though this was needed...don't be so naive as to take my words for bible. It behooves you to do your OWN research. Good Luck!

Ok, thanks for that :)

I have been doing as much research on this as I can but it is very tedious and difficult to do, as 95% of the information you find can date back up to 10 years and be completely obsolete.

Just to clarify though, I have been with Fido for 19 or 20 months now. As of a few months ago I was eligeable for an upgrade until they changed that clause in their agreement in March 09. I will have around 15 months left on my Fido agreement if I cancel, resulting in a $300 or so ECF.

If I do port over to Rogers and renew on a 3 year, and I am lucky enough to get fido to discount the ecf, will they cover the full ammount or just $100?

Hi guys.. So this is what is happening.

I am currently on Fido. I have 1 year and 2 months left on my 3-year contract.

My mother is signing me up on her account.

There is no use of me having both lines, especially if the phone on my mother's account is all I will really need. It is an iPhone with all the features I am looking for...

I was told that if I moved to Rogers from Fido, and vice versa, then the company I move to will cover my ECF? Or something like that? (someone clear this up for me)...

What I do understand is that SOMEONE will waive the ECF, so my big question is who will do it and how do I get that particular company to do so?

And will they still do it since I am being signed on to my mothers account and not my own?

Thanks !

When you got from Fido to Rogers or vice versa, the ECF is still charge.

But once you go to Rogers and your account has been active for more then 30 days and that you took an agrement with Rogers and you keep the same phone number, you need to contact Fido so that they can get the ECF waived.
